Who out there is guilty of slinging an overloaded golf bag?

Come on. I can't be the only one raising my hand.

Just because many great golf bags today feature loads of pockets doesn't mean we have to fill them all up. Admittedly, I'm still trying to grasp that concept.

During a recent round at an exceptional golf course that required our foursome to take caddies (which I love on those rare, special occasions, by the way), I realized what a problem my "loading the golf bag" issue had become when my caddie demanded I switch my stand bag for a lightweight loaner bag from the bag room.

Suzy Whaley Back On Familiar Ground at Hartford Women's Open

Suzy Whaley congratulated competitors and spoke with friends and fans behind the 18th green at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford on Sunday.

She beamed with pride, not only as PGA Secretary, but also as a woman, watching the final round of the inaugural Hartford Women's Open.

"This is incredible," said Whaley of Farmington. "The opportunity to play in such a tournament is significant. And to play at such courses as Keney and Goodwin is even better."

Rory McIlroy Opts Out Of Rio Olympics Over Zika Concerns

Golfer Rory McIlroy became one of the most high-profile sports stars to opt out of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics because of concerns about the Zika virus, saying Wednesday it is "a risk I am unwilling to take."

"After speaking with those closest to me, I've come to realize that my health and my family's health comes before anything else," the four-time major winner said in a statement released by his management company.

The fourth-ranked McIlroy was scheduled to play for Ireland as golf makes its return to the Olympics for the first time since 1904.

The season's second major championship -- the U.S. Open -- is upon us this week at Oakmont Country Club just outside Pittsburgh, Pa.
