Desert Forest Golf Club to Host USGA Amateur Qualifying Event

CAREFREE, Ariz. (March 3, 2015) – The United States Golf Association recently announced sectional qualifying sites for the 2015 Amateur Four-Ball Championship. One of the host sites for the USGA Amateur Four-Ball Sectional Qualifying will be Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Arizona on March 23. Played over 18 holes, sectional qualifying will be held at 51 golf courses across the United States with the culmination of tournament action to be held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco on May 2-6, 2015.

One of the nation’s most revered and treasured layouts, Desert Forest which celebrated 50 years of incomparable service and dedication to the game of golf in 2012 will stage the prestigious amateur golf tournament on Monday, March 23.

Thunderbirds Eclipse $100 Million in Charitble Giving

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Waste Management Phoenix Open hosts, The Thunderbirds, announced today that proceeds raised through the 2015 WM Phoenix Open will help them surpass the $100 million mark in charitable giving. The exact charity dollars from the 2015 tournament are still being calculated and will be announced in a few months, but Tournament Chairman Danny Calihan verified that this year’s tournament has raised at least $7 million for local charities.

Duininck Golf to Renovate Maryvale Golf Course

Historic layout attached to Grand Canyon University to receive an $8 million makeover

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Grand Canyon University (GCU), a private Christian university, has assumed management of Maryvale Golf Course, a municipal facility owned by the City of Phoenix. The university agreed to invest $8 million to revitalize the worn-out course, which has lost money in recent years. Scottsdale-based architect John Fought has been hired to revamp the layout, with Duininck Golf as the contractor. The course closed for reconstruction on Jan. 15. A fall 2015 opening is expected.

Chandler Amateur Hannah O’Sullivan and Chandler Professional Jessi White Get Sponsor Exemptions into Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., February 5, 2015 – The Symetra Tour, the Road to the LPGA, is excited to announce that Chandler amateur Hannah O’Sullivan and Chandler professional Jessi White have received sponsor exemptions to play in the Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club the week of February 16-22.

O’Sullivan, a 16-year-old junior at Hamilton High School and White, a former Oregon State golfer, will compete amongst the top 120 up-and-coming professional golfers from around the world at Longbow Golf Club. The players will be competing for a total tournament purse of $100,000 with the winner earning $15,000.

The three-round tournament begins on Friday, February 20 and concludes on Sunday, February 22. There will be a cut made after second round play on Saturday, February 21.
