WORLD #1 JON RAHM, #6 JUSTIN THOMAS AMONG FIRST COMMITMENTS TO 2022 WM PHOENIX OPEN

The Waste Management Phoenix Open Presented by Taylor Morrison has already received early commitments from some of the top PGA TOUR players who will tee it up at “The People’s Open” February 7-13 at TPC Scottsdale. Those among the first to commit include World No. 1 golfer and 2021 U.S. Open winner Jon Rahm, as well as World No. 6 golfer and 14-time PGA TOUR champion Justin Thomas.

In this video, Neil Tappin is joined by PGA professional Alex Elliott to look at the main reasons why golfers get stuck at the same handicap for long periods. Alex offers some insights into the traps golfers fall into and provides advice on how to move forwards and possibly even to get your handicap down!

The Thunderbirds – hosts of the Waste Management Phoenix Open – announced the release of a limited number of additional tickets for the first-ever Concert in the Coliseum that will kick off WM Phoenix Open week two days earlier on Saturday, Feb. 5 and will feature country music sensations Thomas Rhett and Old Dominion performing live under the lights from the iconic 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

These Platinum tickets will offer the closest and best views of the stage that will sit in the fairway at the 16th hole, as well as exclusive access to the 16th hole Loge venue and complimentary food and drinks. Tickets are $400 each and will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2 HERE. The “Concert in the Coliseum” is a 21 and over event.

After coming back into the public eye at the Hero World Challenge for the first time since his Feb. 23 car crash, Tiger Woods will return to competition for the first time in over a year with his son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship.

It's been a long road back for Woods, even before he suffered comminuted open fractures to the upper and lower sections of his right leg in the crash, which almost resulted in amputation. Here's a look at his path back. 

Nov. 15, 2020: Tiger's most recent PGA Tour start at his long-awaited Masters title defense, which was delayed seven months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a final-round 76, Woods finished T-38. 

Dec. 20, 2020: The world was captivated by the bond Woods and Charlie showed while playing alongside each other at the PNC Championship en route to finishing seventh.

The GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf recognized the Waste Management Phoenix Open as the first golf tournament in the world to achieve “GEO Certified® Tournament” status for five years in a row for the event’s leadership in sustainability.

The 2021 tournament, played February 1-7 at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz., received the international award for sustainability in golf from the Scotland-based organization by completing a custom-built program for golf tournaments, including document and evidence submission, third-party verification carried out by the Council for Responsible Sport (the official verification body for GEO Certified Tournaments in North America), a thorough review by GEO, and by agreeing to a range of Continual Improvement Points.

Hosted by The Thunderbirds, an Arizona-based civic organization, and sponsored by WM, North America’s largest environment solutions provider, the WM Phoenix Open became a GEO Certified Tournament in 2017 when the PGA TOUR event became the world’s first GEO Certified Tournament.
