Tournament Chairman Pat Williams announced today World No. 1 and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy has officially committed to play in the 2023 WM Phoenix Open Presented by Taylor Morrison, which is set to tee it up February 6-12 at TPC Scottsdale. This will be McIlroy’s second appearance at “The People’s Open”, he finished T-13 in his 2021 debut.

“We’re beyond excited to welcome one of the most decorated golfers of this generation, Rory McIlroy, back to ‘The People’s Open’,” Williams said. “Rory’s accomplishments on and off the golf course are indicative of what it means to be a ‘pro’s pro,’ we are thrilled that our fans get to watch him in action at TPC Scottsdale for a second time.”

Golf fitness can cover a lot of territory but, as a youth golf coach, I see stretching, cardio, speed work, strength training and injury prevention as the top areas of focus for kids.

Tournament Chairman Pat Williams announced today the WM Phoenix Open has received more commitments from some of the best players in the world who will tee it up at “The People’s Open” February 6-12 at TPC Scottsdale. Those among the second wave of players to officially commit include two-time Major champion Collin Morikawa, five-time PGA TOUR winners Tony Finau and Max Homa, plus six-time European Tour winner Tommy Fleetwood, who is making his WM Phoenix Open debut.

“Already the field for the 2023 WM Phoenix Open is shaping up to be one of the strongest in tournament history,” Williams said. “The latest round of official commitments include some of the most recognizable and fan-favorite players on the PGA TOUR. We can’t wait to see them out at ‘The People’s Open’ in 2023.”

Those among the first to officially commit include defending WM Phoenix Open champion and 2022 PGA TOUR Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler, seven-time PGA TOUR winner and 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist Xander Schauffele, and four-time PGA TOUR winner Sam Burns.

“With the WM Phoenix Open being named a designated event, we have high expectations for showcasing the best field we’ve ever had,” Williams said. “We can’t wait to introduce the rest of the field as we get closer to the 88th edition of ‘The People’s Open.’”

What’s the forecast for the coming year in golf?

Meteorologically speaking, that question will be top of mind for the PGA Championship in May at way-up-north Oak Hill in Rochester, New York. It will also come up at The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in July – when Tiger Woods won The Open there in 2006, it was amidst such a fierce heatwave the browned-out course was literally turning to dust.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Following the overwhelming success of The Patriot All-America Invitational, organizers have implemented a second tournament to the Patriot lineup named The Thunderbolt, which will feature 72 more of the nation’s top male collegiate players competing in a three-round event from December 29-31, 2022, at Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club in Surprise, Ariz.

“With the depth of talent in college and amateur golf, it is more and more difficult to receive invitations to elite tournaments,” said Dustin Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). “The Thunderbolt allows those individuals that are just missing out on those invitations an opportunity to compete against quality competition and raise their rankings and profiles. We are proud that the top three returning finishes in the 2022 Thunderbolt will receive invitations to the 2023 Patriot All-America Invitational, providing a path to elite tournament play.”
