TaylorMade Introduce Truss Putter to Fit Golfers Seeking the Stability and Performance of High MOI Mallets in More Classic Shapes

CARLSBAD, Calif. (February 3, 2020) – TaylorMade Golf, the industry leader in technology and performance, today announced the company’s newest putter innovation in Truss. The uniquely shaped family of putters provides an answer for golfers seeking the performance of a high-MOI mallet in a more traditional shape.

IT LOOKS LIKE NOTHING ELSE, BECAUSE IT PUTTS LIKE NOTHING ELSE

The distinctive look of Truss putters directly relates to the performance of the product.

At address, the topline will look very familiar to golfers. However, the face-on view reveals a compelling hosel structure that’s the defining feature of the entire family.

The design creates multiple contact points on the topline and reduces the amount of unsupported mass, which is intended to improve the stability of the putter face at impact. While traditionally shaped putters with a single contact point on the heel are susceptible to twisting at impact, Truss putters provide exceptional torsional stability and computer modeling shows Truss twisting less on off-center strikes (as compared to our previous generation blade).

SHAPING A HIGH MOI PUTTER

TaylorMade collected data on 40,000 putts hit by golfers of various skill levels and tracked the most common area of the face where strikes occur. Results showed that more than half of the strikes occurred on the toe-side of center, which causes deflection and can lead to offline putts. Armed with this information, TaylorMade engineers set out to create a twist-resistant putter that offered greater torsional stability while maintaining a traditional shape.

The Truss hosel design derives its stability and strength from a geometric shaping that’s widely used across various forms of architecture, from home building to bridges, to create foundational stability. Our engineers used the same design elements with our Truss putters, adding stronger horizontal support across the topline.

Having dual contact points on the topline provides greater integrity on strikes across the face, delivering the performance of a high-MOI putter with the look of a blade or traditional mallet.

Webb Simpson wins in playoff at Waste Management

Webb Simpson re-entered the winner’s circle at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. It is his sixth PGA TOUR title and first in nearly two years. He’s had several close calls since June, becoming one of the game’s most consistent players in that time. Simpson moved to No. 2 in the FedExCup and seventh in the world ranking with his win. Let’s take a closer look at Simpson’s play at TPC Scottsdale and his success over the past few months.

1. UNSTOPPABLE SIMPSON: Simpson has five kids at home, so he has to be efficient with his travel. He’s made the most of his trips this season. His worst finish in four starts is seventh. Sunday’s win was his third consecutive top-three finish. In his last three starts, only two players have beaten him over the course of 72 holes. That was at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he finished one shot out of the playoff between Cameron Smith and Brendan Steele. Simpson lost a playoff to Tyler Duncan at The RSM Classic and won Sunday’s playoff with Tony Finau at TPC Scottsdale.

The 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open has come to an exciting end with thousands of golf fans once again pushing off the Super Bowl to see who would be crowned The People’s Open Champion. After finishing in second place to 2017 champion Hideki Matsuyama in a four-hole playoff, Webb Simpson now finds himself in the TPC Scottsdale winner’s circle after yet another thrilling sudden-death playoff against perennial contender Tony Finau. Simpson, who won the 2012 U.S. Open, now has six wins on the PGA TOUR, with his most victory coming at the 2018 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Simpson started Sunday’s round in the final group at 15-under par just one shot back of the leader, Tony Finau. A birdie on four allowed Simpson to take a share of the lead before it was quickly erased by a bogey on seven. Finau had birdies on 12 and 13 to take a two-stroke lead going into the TPC Scottsdale “Stadium Stretch” but couldn’t convert birdie putts on any of the final five holes. Simpson’s birdies on 17 and 18 forced a playoff with Finau who found the bunker off the tee on the first playoff hole, where Simpson made three-straight birdie putts (17, 18 and first playoff hole) to win his first PGA TOUR title in two years.
