Lexi Thompson Wins 2019 ShopRite LPGA Classic in Dramatic Fashion with Bridgestone TOUR B X Ball

(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf Tour team member Lexi Thompson continued one of the best Tour seasons in Bridgestone Golf’s history, with a dramatic come-from-behind victory at the 2019 ShopRite LPGA Classic. Thompson finished with a clutch eagle on the 18th hole to garner her 11th career LPGA victory and the 6th win for Bridgestone this season, including 5 with the TOUR B X golf ball. Thompson’s victory vaults her to #1 on the U.S. Solheim Cup points list.

The TOUR B Series golf balls represent Bridgestone’s most technologically-advanced models to date. During development, company engineers used data from nearly 350,000 in-person ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, to identify needs of specific player types. They then drew on more than 800 golf ball patents to determine which proprietary technologies would most benefit each type of swing characteristics identified.

Returning to the scene of her professional debut just 9 years ago, Lexi carded a 12-under total of 201 to win the 54-hole event by two shots. In testing the TOUR B X ball with the Bridgestone R&D team this past fall, Thompson optimized her fit and acquired an additional 5 yards off the tee with improved accuracy. In addition, Thompson’s approach shots benefitted from her adoption of the TOUR B X as well, seeing a more preferred penetrating ball flight, perfect for cutting through the strong breezes of the Bay Course at Seaview all week.

Angel Yin Launches Yin Golf Academy to Help Leave Her Mark on Women's Golf

Angel Yin Launches Yin Golf Academy to Help Leave Her Mark on Women's Golf

After Angel Yin finished practicing in the sunny Southern California sunshine, some days she would go to her club guy’s small studio that had radars for extra work at night. She wished she had more of an indoor space to work with.

The time in his studio gave birth to her goal of opening a golf academy. While she was on the shores of Hawaii in April, an opportunity hulaed to Yin to own her own academy.

“I want to open up a place so people that are very busy and work all day, to have time and an opportunity to hit and hang out,” Yin told LPGA.com.

The 20-year-old was contacted by her business partner that her former coach, Lucy Davies, was looking to sell her academy in Westlake Village. Yin jumped at the chance.

“An opportunity where everything is setup, location right off the freeway, it’s not something you get every day.”

Yin and her team launched an initial opening of Yin Golf Academy in early May, with a hard launch on June 15th.

A look ahead to the upcoming 2024 Masters Tournament!
