Bunker to Bunker, December 18, 2004

NOTE: As you all know, DJ is leaving Arizona and heading to the land of the rising sun, so Saturday, January 1st, will be his last Bunker to Bunker Golf Show. Yes, this will be a tough one, but we want to make it fun and we need your help. We are asking for everyone to call the program to give a roast to DJ. We want to hear all kinds of stories about DJ--of course, we are on radio and need to keep the stories clean --I know, not much to say then, but do your best! Please mark your calendars to call into our program at 602-277-5687 on New Year`s Day.

The show was live from the ESPN Studio and Gray Hawk Golf Club. Greg broadcast from the studio while Tiffany was at Grayhawk for the Grey Goose Gateway Tour Championship. The show was packed with guests and was the last show for 2004.

Greg and Tiffany talked about last week’s golf and Tiger’s resurgence. Discussion about Tiger’s swing and the news of Tiger coming out about working with Hank Haney. Tiger has had to revitalize his game and now let’s see if he can contend with Vijay, Ernie and Phil in 2005.

Chris Stutts, Grey Goose Gateway Tour creator, called the program to talk about the Tour and how successful it is. The Tour has expanded from the Phoenix area to San Diego to Alabama to South Carolina. In 2005 the Tour will move into Florida. This is the largest mini-tour in the world and continues to grow. The field for this weekend’s event has current qualifiers for the PGA Tour as well as former PGA Tour players. This is a great preparatory Tour to get ready for trying to qualify for the PGA Tour.

In the second hour of the show Sam Frost of the Frost Golf Academy joined Greg in studio to discuss his golf academy that has found a home in the U.S. at Whirlwind Golf Club. Sam and his wife Zoë will be conducting golf programs for all ages, experiences and needs of golfers looking to improve. They are bringing this academy from South Africa and offer rates that are extremely affordable for the quality of instruction given. Welcome to the Valley of the Sun.

Sam shared some great insight on the PGA Tour qualifying that was recently completed. He caddied for South African Andrew McClardy and stated that it was quite amazing to watch how the complexion of the week changed as the final days closed in on the guys. These guys are truly playing for their lives and the pressure shows.

Saturday Soapbox was next. This is where listeners have the chance to call the show to express their opinions on the topic of the week. This week’s topic was, “What predictions do you make for 2005?” Several callers were on the line while Greg continued with Tiffany on the line and Sam in studio as the judge. Ray from Scottsdale says that Davis Love III will be the one to watch in 2005. Ray will receive a one-hour golf lesson with Sam Frost and lunch at Whirlwind, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap and a sleeve of Titleist Golf balls, all of the items with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. For all of the callers who did not get through, please try again next show to have a chance at a great prize package.

Bunker-to-Bunker personalities’ predictions for 2005 include:

  • Tiffany - Predicts Kevin Stadler will make his presence known on the Tour in 2005 and that Lorena Ochoa will challenge Annika. Tiffany also predicts that Phil Mickelson will win another major title in 2005.
  • Greg - Predicts that there will be a foreign dominance of the LPGA and PGA Tours for 2005. Golf has definitely become a world wide sport where Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam have raised the bar with a lot of golfers accepting the challenge.
  • DJ - Predictions to be posted after the first show in 2005.
I would like to thank Sam Frost for joining us on the show this week. Also, thanks to all of the people who were guests throughout the year on the show. And to our listeners, you are the reason that the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is Arizona’s number one golf show--thanks for listening. Also, I want to thank DJ for 4 great years on the air and wish him, Debbi and Jaxon the best on their adventure to Japan. You will be missed.

The Bunker team will be enjoying Christmas with their families and back on the air on New Year’s Day. DJ and Tiffany will here from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. The Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Have a happy holiday season and a great New Year. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, December 11, 2004

Greg and DJ were at Anthem Golf & Country Club this week for the Bunker to Bunker golf event to benefit Toys For Tots. It was a great tournament and thanks to everyone who played. After a quick recap of last week’s golf, DJ and Greg welcomed Jeff Colton, Vice-President of Category Management with Callaway Golf to the program. Jeff is the designer of the Heavenwood Hybrid club that was just released. This club is a wood/iron that is intended to replace the typically tough-to-hit longer irons. Jeff pointed out how Callaway is a bit behind the eight ball on this one as several of the other vendors already have hybrids in the market. He mentioned how it was important for Callaway to take their time through this process so that this club would match the quality of the Callaway brand. Jeff also told us that it was important to make a club that was not only easier for players to hit for full shots but was designed to make it easier for players to chip with. This was an area he felt that the other vendors had over looked.

Next, DJ and Greg gave an update on this week’s Target World Challenge. Tiger and Monty are at the top of the leader board just ahead of Jay Haas. DJ was quick to point out that he got to watch Tiger play in Japan and feels that he looks comfortable over the golf ball for the first time in a long time. He also mentioned how Tiger hit a lot of fairways in Japan and it looks like his confidence is growing in this area as well. Greg pointed out that Monty looks like he is in better shape physically and seems to have shaken the "anti-American" monkey and has happily handed that off to Paul Casey.

Dan Budzius, General Manager at Anthem Golf & Country Club, joined the program for our Saturday Morning Soapbox. Our winner, Greg, wins a foursome to Anthem Golf & Country Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap and a sleeve of Titleist balls. Our winner told us how he has been playing with a hybrid club for several years and not only loves it for full shot but chips with it 100% of the time as well. He also mentioned how important it is to use the latest technology if it makes the game easier. The game is more fun if it is easier.

Remember to tune in for all of the cutting-edge information in golf every Saturday from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will have a lot to talk about.

Bunker to Bunker, December 4, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were live at Palm Valley Golf Club for the 100 Holes of Golf to raise money for the Junior Golf Association of Arizona. We started off with Tom Cunningham, Executive Director for the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, who explained this is their major fund raiser for the year. They are planning on raising around $130,000 which will help 2,500 kids get introduced to and outfitted for the game of golf. There were 30 golfers out there playing 100 holes of golf on a day that was cold and rainy--not the best of days!

Next we had Shawn Ferris, the President of JGAA. He currently holds the record of the most under par for 100 holes--32 under! I can’t believe that! Shawn explained the rules, which are stretched during the play. They each get their own cart and zoom around the course. They do not play the holes in order, but go wherever there is an open hole. It is a really great fund raiser which gets the juniors involved also.

Next we had on Blake and Niko, both juniors in the Association and playing the 100 holes of golf. Blake has done the 100 holes of golf before while it is Niko’s first time. Both are freshman in high school and want to take their games to college and then on to the professional level. They have been involved in junior golf for five years and really enjoy the people they meet and the experiences they have had.

Then we talked with Marty Monahan regarding a rep golf sale that will be taking place on Friday, December 10, 2005. There will be a lot of clothing reps selling all their sample stuff to the public at deeply discounted pricing. This will take place at the Inn at Pima Suites off Pima Road starting at 10:00 a.m. They will have some great golf stuff, so if you are still looking for a holiday gift, be sure to stop by and take a look.

Our Saturday Soapbox was about the use of enhancement drugs and fighting in sports. We have seen these big controversies during basketball and baseball, did our listeners ever think it will extend to the game of golf? Since there was so much controversy going on, we wanted to hear from our listeners and get their opinion. Ray from Scottsdale said we would be naïve if we don’t think it will carry over to the game of golf. He said that if it would cost a player $10,000 or $100,000 to take something that would calm the player down over a 10 foot putt, they would take it. As for the fighting, it would surprise him since the crowd is right next to the player. Ray won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, a foursome of golf to Palm Valley Golf Club, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, and four general tickets to the FBR Open. Congratulations Ray!

It was a jam-packed show. Be sure to listen next week when we will be live from 7-9:00 a.m. on ESPN Radio 860 AM at Anthem Golf & Country Club for our Bunker Tour golf tournament. Catch you next week!

Bunker to Bunker, November 27, 2004

The show was live from El Rio Country Club in Mohave Valley, AZ, with Greg handling the broadcast for the first time from El Rio. DJ was in Texas and Tiffany was in Florida where they were celebrating Thanksgiving with their families. Greg had family and friends at El Rio for the kick off of the holiday season.

The show was started with the recap of last week’s golf and a discussion about Annika’s dominance of the LPGA Tour which increased as she won the season-ending ADT Championship. It will be interesting to see who can challenge Annika in 2005. Greg also recapped the World Cup Golf Championship in Spain, in which Luke Donald and Paul Casey held off the pre-tourney favorites, Spain`s Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Jimenez, by one shot. On the Japanese Tour, Tiger Woods lapped the field at the Dunlop Phoenix Open for his first stroke play victory in over a year. Tiger actually looked like he is getting his swing back.

Peter Kessler of The Perfect Club and writer for Golf Magazine, called the show and spent a half hour with Greg discussing Phil Mickelson and his recent 59 at the Grand Slam event earlier in the week. Peter’s take on this is that a 59 is a 59 no matter what circumstances the score was shot under. This is a significant benchmark for Phil and Peter expects this will have a positive effect on his confidence for 2005.

Peter and Greg also discussed the recent World Golf Hall of Fame inductees, specifically Charlie Sifford, and how much of an impact that Sifford had on the Tour as he was the individual who broke though the color barrier. Charlie Sifford was a great player and is a wonderful individual who certainly belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Peter also shared what he felt was the top story of 2004, that being Phil Mickelson winning at Augusta. Not so much him winning, but the fact that Phil had told Peter in an interview about 18 months ago that he was going to win a major in 2004 and that this will be the first of many. That was a very impressive prediction.

In the second hour of the show, Pomp Braswell called in to give us an update on his Tour status. Pomp has retained his full exempt status on the Canadian Tour and is currently teaching in the Golf Digest Schools.

The discussions also led to Paul Casey’s comments and the fact that he is going to pay for those comments about Americans for some time to come. Hopefully, his clubs will do the talking in the future.

Next was Saturday Soapbox where callers have the chance to call in to express their opinions on the topic of the week. This week`s topic was, “What was the top story for 2004?” Several callers were holding on the line while Greg continued with Pomp on another line. But a couple of the callers who did get through had great opinions on this topic. Bill from Peoria was the caller chosen who presented the best story line about how the PGA Tour level of competition has stepped up and that guys are not afraid of Tiger any longer. Vijay has rightfully claimed number one position on Tour and 2005 looks to be a competitive year again. Bill will receive a foursome of golf to El Rio Country Club in Mohave Valley, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, all of the items have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. For all of the callers not getting through, please try again next week to have a chance at a great prize package.

DJ Flanders, Co-Host of the show called in to spend the last half hour with Greg. The topics discussed ranged from Paul Casey’s “miss quote” to DJ participating in the Junior Golf Marathon next weekend. Call DJ at Kierland Golf Club if you want to pledge an amount for the 100 holes of golf in one day. The number to call is 480-624-1000 and ask for the golf shop.

Don`t forget to click on the link below to book yourself or your group for the great Bunker Tour event at Anthem Golf & Country Club December 11, 2004. And make sure to join DJ and Tiffany next week, from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. The Bunker-to-Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, November 20, 2004

Bunker to Bunker was broadcast live in studio with Tiffany and Greg on the air while DJ reported from Japan at the Dunlop Phoenix Open.

Discussions consisted of a recap of last week’s golf. Annika Sorrenstam is virtually unbeatable and her season is actually better than Vijay Singh`s.

Bryon Carney, Tournament Chairman for the 2005 FBR Open called to discuss the event. It is only 73 days until the world’s largest spectator event begins. The biggest change in the tournament is the move of the Bird’s Nest back to TPC of Scottsdale property. The new location will be across the street from the Desert Golf Course. Bryon also talked about the Birdies for Charity and the great significance this can have for local charities. There are an average of 1,500 to 1,700 birdies each year in the tournament. People can get involved by contacting the FBR Open office to pledge by calling 602-870-4431.

Greg and Tiffany talked about the Paul Casey controversy and Tiger whining about being in the tabloids. Paul Casey speaking out against the Americans when talking in terms of the Ryder Cup said that his words were “taken out of context.” We will see how he is received at the FBR Open this year. Paul, you better put your best game face on or be ready to be abused. As for Tiger Woods, you better get used to it. You started this back when you were four years old and on the Mike Douglas Show.

Discussions led right into the Saturday Soapbox where our listeners call into the show to share their opinions on the topic of the week. This week’s topic dealt with the controversial topics surrounding golf this week. TV 3’s, Brad Perry joined Tiff and Greg for the final hour of the show. Several listeners called in and we were able to squeeze a couple of the opinions in. Jim from Carefree gave some great insight into Paul Casey’s comments. He felt that Casey spoke ignorantly and that just because he thought this way, he should not have shared this aloud. Jim was selected for this week’s prize package and will receive a foursome of golf to Dove Valley, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, all with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo. To all of the callers who did not get through this week, please call in next week for your chance to win.

Tiff and Greg reminded our listeners that the next Bunker Tour event will be December 11th at Anthem Golf & Country Club, on the new Ironwood course. You can sign up to play in this event by clicking the graphic below. Sign up early, you don`t want to get shut out of this exciting tournament.

Remember to tune in for all of the cutting-edge information in golf every Saturday, from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will have a lot to talk about.

Bunker to Bunker, November 13, 2004

Greg and Tiffany were live in studio this week. We recapped last week at the Tour Championship of the PGA Tour. Retief Goosen pulled out the victory by 4 shots over Tiger Woods. Tiger did not play very well on the final round, shooting a 73, 2 over par. We talked about Tiger and his swing and also about Vijay’s year.

Vijay closed out the year with nine wins and over $10 million in winnings. With Vijay’s hard work and terrific practice ethic, he deserved everything he got this year--including the ranking as number one player in the world along with the PGA Tour Player of the Year. Last year, if you remember, there was a big controversy over Tiger and Vijay with Tiger getting the Player of the Year. This award is voted on by the tour players and Tiger is friends with most of the players, unlike Vijay.

We also recapped what was going on this week in golf. The LPGA was in the middle of the Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions. The leader was Laura Diaz who had a spectacular Friday round, finishing with three birdies. She was making every putt that she looked at. Another person who was in contention was Lorena Ochoa. She has been up in the top ten almost every tournament she has played in this year. She was 3 shots behind, but not forgotten.

Our Saturday Soapbox question was, "If you could give a 2005 PGA Tour Card to anyone, who would you give it to?" Bill from Peoria said that he wouldn’t give it to anyone because the guys who deserve the card already have it by being in the top 125 on the money list. Those guys are the ones that played the best and get rewarded with a card for 2005. Alex said he would give it to his step-dad who is a 6-handicap and loves the game. The winner of Saturday Soapbox was Dennis from Scottsdale who would give it to Steve Stricker. Steve plays his heart out and is over the 150 mark. Steve needs a big break and that would help him to be able to just get on the course and play without any big weights on his shoulders. Dennis won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, a foursome of golf to Trilogy of Vistancia Golf Club, and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls. Congratulations Dennis.

To top off the show we had Vic Lombardi on to talk about the Ultimate Stakes Golf Tour, which is coming out to Kierland Golf Club to shoot the pilot show. They are looking for gallery to participate on Wednesday from 3 – 6 p.m. This is a golf tournament that is run like a Texas Hold ‘em poker hand. Six guys bring $50,000 (of their own money) to the table and bet on their golf games. It is a new reality show that Fox Sports is looking to pick up. If interested in being in the gallery, park at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa and head over to the golf course.

Hope you didn`t miss this week`s jam-packed show and that you`ll tune in next week when Greg and Tiffany will be back in studio. Don’t forget the next Bunker Tour golf tournament at Anthem Golf & Country Club on December 11th. Just click the graphic below to book your tee time. Catch you next week!

Bunker to Bunker, November 6, 2004

Bunker-to-Bunker was broadcast live from Anthem Golf & Country Club for the Tour Championship special show with DJ and Greg at the helm. Greg gave special recognition to DJ for being named as one of the Southwest Section of the PGA Merchandisers of the Year at Kierland Golf Club, and for doing a great job with last week`s Bunker to Bunker event at Kierland. This terrific Bunker Tour event raised over $7,000.00 for the First Tee program and the hurricane relief effort for Starwood employees who lost their homes in the Bahamas.

Discussions consisted of a recap of last week`s golf. Vijay Singh continued his torrid pace on making golf history by becoming the first $10 million dollar man on the PGA Tour. Greg made mention that Vijay still has not gotten the respect that he deserves. If it was Tiger Woods winning at Vijay`s pace, this season would have been bigger than the recent presidential election.

Grace Park won on the LPGA Tour last week, which was a great recovery from faltering the previous week because of a final round 76 which allowed Annika Sorenstam to win. Grace got her revenge last week by holding Annika off for the victory.

Gary McCord called the show to discuss the upcoming Tommy Bahama Challenge, which will be contested at Gray Hawk Golf Club November 9-11. This will pit some young guns from the U.S. against their counterparts from Europe. McCord promises that this event will be like no other team event and will be fun to watch on New Year`s Day.

Discussions led right into the Saturday Soapbox where our listeners call into the show to share their opinions on the topic of the week. This week`s discussion dealt with the selection of Tom Lehman as the next Ryder Cup captain. Chris Lamberti, the Director of Golf at the Anthem Golf & Country Club, sat in for this segment to assist in deciding which caller would win the ultimate Bunker prize package. Several callers voiced their opinions about how strong Tom Lehman will be as the captain. Greg and Chris actually used up a lot of the Saturday Soapbox time and decided to award Bob from Peoria and Bob from Scottsdale the prize package for so accurately pointing out that Lehman is a fierce competitor and will have the respect of the players. The Bobs will each receive a Southwest Section PGA golf pass, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap, and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, all with the Bunker to Bunker logo. To all of the callers that did not get through this week, please call in next week for your chance to win.

Remember to tune in for all of the cutting-edge information in golf every Saturday from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will have a lot to talk about.

Bunker to Bunker, October 30, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were live at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa today for the Wastin` Away Again at Bunker to Bunkerville Event. Today`s event is raising funds for The First Tee Program of Phoenix and the Starwood Hurricane Relief Fund. After a quick recap of Ryan Palmer`s great final round last week, DJ and Tiffany started to recap this week`s golf. The PGA is in Florida for the Chrysler Championship,. Cris Card, Director of Golf at Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort, joined the program to fill our listeners in on the course conditions and spectacular field this week. Cris was quick to point out that four of the current golfers in the top ten are responsible for over 11 wins this year on tour. He also stated that several golfers such as Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III have missed the cut which was surprising.

Kris Long joined the program next to give us a quick rundown of what to expect on tonight`s Golf in the Southwest. This week`s course of the week is Legend Trail Golf Club, so be sure to tune in every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13).

Next on the program was Steve Jones, 1996 US Open Champion and assistant captain of this year`s Ryder Cup team. Steve told us how upset the Americans were to lose the cup this year. He also touched on the confidence that the Europeans have right now because of the four victories that they have had in the last five Ryder Cups. He also touched on Chris Riley`s decision to not play in the afternoon round of the Friday matches and how upset Chris was because of the way the media took his decision and questioned his desire. Steve told us that Chris made this decision because of the fatigue he was feeling from having a newborn the prior week and the immense pressure that the Ryder Cup puts on a player.

James of Cave Creek won himself a foursome to Kierland Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap and a sleeve of golf balls for his take on women trying to qualify for the PGA Tour. He stated that women, if they were capable enough, should be able to participate in the qualifier. They should not, however, be extended an exemption to play. They should earn their way.

Remember to tune in for all of the cutting-edge information in golf every Saturday, from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will have a lot to talk about.

Bunker to Bunker, October 23, 2004

Bunker to Bunker was in live in studio this week. Greg held down the studio with guest host Marty Monaghan from Ahead Golf while DJ assisted Jimmy Buffett in Las Vegas and Tiffany tried to cheer her Purdue Boilermakers to victory over the Michigan Wolverines. Tiffany`s efforts were fruitless since Michigan was the winner.

Discussions with Marty started by recapping the previous week’s golf activities and noting Brent Geiberger`s win at the The Chrysler Classic of Greensboro. This was a history-making victory since Brent and his legendary father, Al (Mr. 59), are the first father and son to win the same golf event on the PGA Tour. Al won the event in 1976. This is a very significant piece of history as more Tour players’ children will begin to pop up on Tour over the next several years. Also discussed was how can anybody beat Annika Sorenstam? She came from behind to win the Samsung World Championship over Arizona’s own Grace Park. Mark McNulty took the SBC Championship on the Champions Tour.

Kris Long of Golf Southwest called into to inform our listeners of his upcoming show itinerary. This show can be seen every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). This is a definite must see every week.

Discussions led right into the Saturday Soapbox where our listeners call into the show to share their opinions on the topic of the week. This week’s topic dealt with player of the year on the PGA Tour. It was a unanimous decision that Vijay Singh will be the P-O-T-Y with his outstanding play. Several callers voiced their reasons and from that group guest host Marty Monaghan chose Bill Shestko of Phoenix for his accurate assessment and first-hand knowledge of Vijay’s work ethic and competitiveness. For Bill’s on-target commentary he will receive a foursome of golf to El Rio Country Club in Fort Mohave Valley, Arizona, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, and Ahead golf cap, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, all with the Bunker to Bunker logo, and a box set of Upper Deck golf trading cards. We apologize to the several callers who did not get through this week. Please call in next week for your chance to win.

Remember to tune in for all of the cutting-edge information in golf every Saturday, from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will have a lot to talk about.

Bunker to Bunker, October 16, 2004

Tiffany and DJ were live in studio this week. After a quick recap of last week`s golf, Kris Long of Golf Southwest joined the program to fill us in on what can be expected on his show this week. Be sure to tune in to Kris` show every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13).

DJ and Tiffany started recapping this week`s PGA Tour Event, The Chrysler Classis of Greensboro. Brett Gieberger was the early leader but Tiffany does not expect him to be the winner with past champions of this event, Funk and Toms, right on his heels. DJ quickly pointed out that it is the time of year where "the event within the events" is taking shape and players are fighting to retain their cards. Geiberger is one of these individuals and this might be the motivating factor that keeps him at the top of the leader board.

On the LPGA Tour, Grace Park`s hot putter currently has her in the lead with a stellar field in the Samsung World Championship. Tiffany pointed out that this is one of the strongest fields of the year and don`t be surprised if someone from the back of the pack comes from behind to win this invitation-only event.

The Senior Tour is playing at the SBC Championship in San Antonio. The event is being played at Oak Hills Country Club which is one of the shortest courses they play all year. DJ pointed out that this event has a lot of history and used to be hosted across town at the Dominion Country Club. Look for one of the young guns to win this event.

The Nationwide event, The Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic, is being hosted at Midland Country Club is West Texas. Jimmy Walker, DA Points and Jeff Quinney are all fighting hard to get their third win of the season and qualify for a Battlefield Exemption on to the PGA Tour. None of these individuals look like they have a chance for a win this week and Tiffany pointed out that Charley Hoffman seems to be hitting the ball well and she would not be surprised to see him come out on top this week.

Tom of Phoenix won the Saturday Morning Soapbox with his take on Tiger`s wedding. His gratuitous plug about Tiger listening to Jimmy Buffett more often now that he has not a care in the world was a shameless way to win the hearts of the judges, but it worked. This sneaky trick won him a foursome to Whirlwind Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

Make sure to listen next week from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, October 9, 2004

The show was live from Whirlwind Golf Club and the Nationwide Tour’s Gila River Classic. What a beautiful setting for the remote. Greg and Tiffany hosted this week’s broadcast which was a fast two hours with the guests all lined up to provide an informative show.

Chuck Bombard, the Director of Golf at the TPC at Summerlin called in to the show to update the listeners on the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas. The event was contested on the TPC at Summerlin, the TPC at the Canyons and Bear’s Best Las Vegas. This format was unusual since the Tour players played 54 hole before the cut occurred for the final round on Sunday. Chuck picked Robert Gamez to win.

Next up was the “Rico con Rico” duo a.k.a. Rich Pierson of the PGA Tour Advanced Rules officials and Rich Carter, Director of Golf at Whirlwind Golf Club,. The discussion ranged from the on-course conditions to the future of the event. This event benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Phoenix and has raised several hundred thousand dollars for the charity.

Between guests Greg and Tiffany were able to update last week’s golf and discuss Ernie Els also passing the newlywed Tiger Woods in the world rankings. Tiger’s game will never be the same. Ernie is now focused on catching Vijay. This may take a while but it could happen. The Tour Championship is coming up at the end of October.

Jerry Foltz of the The Golf Channel sat in with Tiffany and Greg to talk about topics that ranged from Jerry’s playing days to how good the night life is at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort. Jerry talked about the quality of the Nationwide Tour and how closely the regular Tour and the Nationwide somewhat intermingle to create one big Tour. Jerry also mentioned some of the guys to watch: Jimmy Walker, Kevin Stadler, Jeff Quinney, Ricky Barnes and D.A. Points. These players will be the next “up and comers.”

Finally, Miles Mallet (pronounced Mul lay), the individual who gained a spot in the event by participating in the Native American qualifying, talked about his experience in playing in the event. Although he missed the cut, it was a great experience that he says convinced him that he can play on Tour. Tour qualifying is in the cards for Miles this fall.

Once again, a special thanks to the staff at Whirlwind Golf Club and Rich Carter for lending a hand with this week`s show. Don’t forget to sign up for the next Bunker Tour event being held at Kierland Golf Club on Saturday, October 30th. This promises to be a great event with the charity for this event providing hurricane relief for some of the Starwood employees in the Bahamas. It is filling up fast so sign up now by clicking on the graphic below. And make sure to join DJ and Tiffany next week from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. The Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, October 2, 2004

DJ and Greg were in studio this week. After a quick recap of all of the tours last week, DJ and Greg began a discussion about Vijay`s bid for Player of the Year. Although it seems that he has the money title tied up, it still seems a bit odd that he will most likely win the player of the year since most of his peers respect but dislike him. Greg pointed out how Vijay was snubbed for this title last year when he was most deserving.

Joe Binsfield, past President of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Phoenix, joined the program to fill us in on next week`s Nationwide event at Whirlwind Golf Club. The festivities for the Gila River Classic begin on Monday. Anyone interested in seeing the event can buy tickets at the gate: $10.00 for day passes or $25.00 week-long passes. This event should prove to be an interesting one with three players making bids for Battlefield exemptions, three wins in one year. Also, with Jeff Quinney`s good play of late his home town fans will get a chance to cheer for this ASU star next week.

DJ and Greg then started recapping this week`s events. Greg pointed out how if Ernie wins this week he will pass Tiger in the World Rankings. Greg also commented on Tiger`s phenomenal play despite his back pain. DJ chimed in on his thoughts on the play of Todd Hamilton. Todd should be a shoe-in for the Rookie of the Year award even though he is 37 years old.

Brian Anderson, comentator for The Golf Channel, joined the program to discuss this week`s Nationwide event and discuss next week`s Gila River Classic. Brian mentioned how Whirlwind Golf Club sets up perfectly for one of this week`s leaders, Bubba Watson. He stated that Bubba is one of the longest players on the Nationwide Tour and length is a huge advantage at Whirlwind.

Joe from Anthem won a round of golf for four and a Bunker-to-Bunker prize package with his soapbox opinions on the next U.S. Ryder Cup Captain. Joe made a very good argument for Larry Nelson. He stated that Larry will get the attention and respect of the younger players and his winning experience in the Ryder Cup should prove to be beneficial. His opinion wins him a round of golf for four at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.

Be sure to book our next exciting Bunker Tour event at Kierland Golf Club. Big prizes (and we mean really big prizes) at a great golf location, super "value pricing" and some really fun folks to play with make this a must event! Just click on the graphic below to book your tee time.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don’t forget to listen next week from 7 – 9 A.M. Saturday on ESPN 860AM!

Bunker to Bunker, September 25, 2004

Greg and Tiffany were live at Camelback Golf Club this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and this week.

To start off the show we discussed the Ryder Cup from last week. We both had our opinions about Chris Riley and him being too tired and emotionally drained to play. We also talked about what it means to play for the U.S.

Next we spoke with Scott Reid with the Southwest Section PGA. They just wrapped up the Arizona Open, which took place at Troon Golf & Country Club. Since moving the event from June to September, the scores ended up a little higher this year. That is because the rough was longer and the greens are faster which definitely made a difference. Scott noted the event will stay in September for next year.

We talked with Tom Enders, the Director of Sales for Marriott Golf. They were hosting the Sky Harbor Invitational Pro-Am in the morning at Camelback Golf Club. The day before they hosted 550 golfers at Marriott`s Wildfire Golf Club. The event was raising money for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and they raised close to $400,000. Camelback also has a special going on from now until they close for overseeding ~ twilight rate Monday through Thursday. What a deal! To find out more, you can go to their Website You can also check out Marriott’s website to find out more information about Marriott and their properties.

Saturday Soapbox was a very interesting one where our listeners gave us their input on the Ryder Cup. We wanted to hear what they thought, liked, disliked, what they would change, etc. First we heard from Tom from Phoenix. He had a new advertising campaign ~ These guys are good? That is good! Next we heard from our winner, Greg from Gilbert. He thinks the team that is chosen should spend a week together before the tournament to bond as a team. Once you spend time with people, you learn more about them and in turn, have a bond between them. All we know is something has to change for the U.S. to get the Ryder Cup back! Greg won a foursome of golf toCamelback Golf Club, an Ahead golf cap, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, a sleeve of Titliest golf balls, and a pack of Golf Trading Cards.

It was a jam packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don’t forget next week Greg and DJ are in studio from 7 – 9 A.M. Saturday on ESPN 860AM!

Bunker to Bunker, September 18, 2004

It was Ryder Cup week and DJ and Tiffany were live at Anthem Golf & Country Club. We had a lot of golf to talk about, especially what had happened so far to the American team. After a quick recap of last week`s golf, we got right into the Ryder Cup.

Greg called in and we discussed the different opinions of what was going on so far. To start, we talked about Phil Michelson. Several stories where swirling around about him not being a team player. Phil did not practice with the team on Wednesday and on Thursday he practiced on a different course than the team. Was that the right thing for Hal Sutton, the team captain, to allow him to do? It may not have been since Phil and Tiger were paired together for the first two matches on Friday and ended up losing both. Also surrounding Phil was the switching of equipment the day before the tournament started. Everyone agreed that he should have waited until after the Ryder Cup to switch equipment. It was very obvious on Friday since he couldn’t hit one fairway all day long.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Next we talked about the controversy of putting Tiger and Phil together on the same team. Greg and Tiffany both felt that the pairing was not a good choice because in the team matches you need to have a friendship/comradery to be able to play well. You could see a major difference in how the Europeans acted towards each other (talking, joking, helping) and how the Americans acted (walked in silence, when struggling, didn’t help, etc.). DJ thought that Sutton had made the right choice and had to take the gamble. Putting the two strongest Americans together would have set the tone of the Ryder Cup had they won.

We also had Danny Tatum on the show. He was live from The Westin La Cantera Resort where the Valero Texas Open was being played. He talked about how the Texans always seem to play well there and how the course conditions were. Ted Purdy tied the course record on Thursday shooting a 61, that was to be bested by Bart Bryant`s 60 on Saturday. The winds were about 15 mph on Saturday and they were planning on having some low scores.

Our Saturday Soapbox was about the Ryder Cup. Since there was so much controversy going on, we wanted to hear from our listeners and get their opinion. We had a lot of callers and most of them agreed that Hal Sutton would be damned if he did and damned if he didn’t put Tiger and Phil together. They agreed with his choice, but were upset that he allowed Phil to practice differently than the rest of the team. Our winner James from Cave Creek, was very disturbed with Phil’s play and switching equipment right before the Ryder Cup. He also agreed with Sutton on choosing Jay Haas as the captain`s pick for the team. Jay was an underdog because of his age, but obviously experience is what the Ryder Cup is all about. James won an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, an Ahead Golf Cap, two foursomes of golf to one of the In Celebration of Golf golf courses, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, and the Upper Deck 2004 golf trading cards. Congratulations James!

Remember to tune in every week from 7:00-9:00 A.M. to the Bunker to Bunker golf show on ESPN Radio 860 AM. You never know what you`ll miss if you don`t.

Bunker to Bunker, August 28, 2004

DJ, Greg and Tiffany were at Corta Bella Golf Club this week for the fourth Wastin` Away Again in Bunkerville Tournament. This month`s event was once again sold out, so a big thanks to all who played in this great event. The Arizona Parrothead Club was once again on hand to provide the "atmosphere." This event helped Bunker to Bunker raise over $3,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix.

After a brief recap of last week`s golf, DJ, Greg and Tiffany shared their thoughts on who Bernhard Langer would pick for his captain`s picks for the Ryder Cup. All three hosts agreed that Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie seemed to be the favorites. DJ shared his thoughts on how Colin would be a risky pick because of how Americans love to hate Monty and especially when the Ryder Cup tournament is being played on American soil.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

After Greg said goodbye he went out onto the golf course to help raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs in a beat-the-pro competition. Then DJ and Tiffany updated our listeners as to what was going on this week in golf. Tiffany pointed out that Fred Funk was playing very well at the Buick Championship and was proving that he deserved to be on the Ryder Cup team. She also pointed out that it was interesting that short hitters like Funk and Pavin where on the board along with long hitters like Kuehne. DJ added that Tim "Lumpy" Herron would be the player to watch through the weekend due to his ability to hit a long but straight golf ball. Also, "Lumpy" has one of the best short games on Tour.

DJ and Tiffany recapped this week`s Champions Tour event with Peter Jacobson currently in the lead. DJ pointed out that Peter was instrumental in bringing this event to Oregon and it would be great to see him win in front of his home-state crowd. DJ also mentioned that Peter is the defending champion on the PGA Tour`s Buick Championship this week and it shows how important this Champions Tour event is for him if he failed to defend his title at the PGA event.

Next to join the program was Cory Flota, Superintendent, and Jon Vesper, Director of Golf, for Corta Bella Golf Club. Cory and Jon told our listeners how this course is only eight years old and is part of a master-planned community that will eventually have over 1800 homes. They also explained how this would be a public course until they sold 400 memberships when it would then convert to a private facility. Currently to entice golfers to play Corte Bella they have a $45.00 special which includes lunch and a sleeve of balls.

Remember to tune in every week from 7:00-9:00 A.M. to the Bunker to Bunker golf show on ESPN Radio 860 AM. You never know what you`ll miss if you don`t.

Bunker to Bunker, August 21, 2004

Bunker-to-Bunker was live in studio with DJ and Greg holding down the duties while Tiffany was off on one of her many travels.

Our first guest was Kris Long of Golf Southwest. Kris’ show will feature Troon Golf & Country Club and the AT&T Wireless Arizona Open. If you missed it this weekend, tune in every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). This is a great thirty minutes of golf information.

Gary Robison, the Head Golf Professional at Firestone Country Club, called in to give us some great insight into the NEC Invitational championship and the difficulties the field will face throughout the weekend. Due to all the rain the greens will be soft but the rough will be "U.S. Open long." Tiger is in the hunt and the question is, can Stewart Cink hold him off?

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Greg and DJ recapped last week’s golf and discussed the great performance of and super victory by Vijay Singh in winning his second PGA Championship. Chris DiMarco and Justin Leonard played some great golf too. It was just not good enough to take down Vijay who was 7-0 going into the weekend when leading after 54 holes. DJ and Greg also recapped this week’s golf explaining how the world rankings could change significantly if Vijay beats Tiger or Ernie Els beats both Vijay and Tiger.

Greg and DJ discussed the captain’s picks for the Ryder Cup. Greg was half right with his prediction: Jay Haas made the team along with Stewart Cink instead of Greg`s other pick, Scott Verplank. We will have to wait now to see if Hal Sutton made the correct decision as we cheer for the Americans to win the Cup.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the B-to-B team, saw a twist to the normal format when we present a topic for discussion. This week DJ and Greg decided to throw a trivia question into the mix to determine the winner. The question dealt with Tiger Woods’ number of weeks at number one in the World Ranking and that there is one person who was number one longer and for how long? Doug, from Phoenix, had the correct answer: Greg Norman held the number one spot for 331 weeks. Doug won a foursome of golf to Arizona Traditions Golf Club in Sun City, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, and a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls for his correct answer to the two-part question. All of the prizes, excluding the foursome, have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. We also asked each of the callers for their thoughts on the Ryder Cup picks and Tiger’s reign at number one. To all of the callers that did not get through, please call in next week with your thoughts.

Make sure to join Tiffany, Greg and DJ next week from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. They will be broadcasting live from Corta Bella Golf Club for the Bunker Tour golf show. They will recap all the golf you need to know and provide more golf information than a walking encyclopedia. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, August 14, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were live at Anthem Golf & Country Club for our PGA Championship special show.

First on the program was Scott Reid, Marketing Director of the Southwest Section PGA, to discuss the Arizona Open. Scott filled us in the second largest event in Arizona right behind the FBR Open. This event draws professional golfers from all over the US and is expected to draw some of our local favorites who did not qualify for the Ryder Cup. The event is going to be played at Troon Golf & Country Club again this year.

Joining us next was Steve Friedlander, General Manager and Director of Golf at Whistling Straits, host of this year`s PGA Championship. Steve was quick to point out that this facility is playing the longest of any major championship, measuring over 7500 yards. He also mentioned that the course has been well received and it has been stated that their greens are the "best all year." Steve mentioned how every effort was made to hide all corporate tents to protect the natural appearance of the golf course. All of these tents can be found on the Irish Course nearby, convenient for the championship attendees, but not detracting from the spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the rolling countryside. Steve also stated that the weekend will prove to be the true test with the course drying out and the wind expected to blow a bit more. We will see.

Next joining Tiffany and DJ was John Douma, winner of this weeks Grey Goose Gateway Tour event. John`s rounds of 67, 71, 65, 68 at Desert Highlands and Legend Trail won him $28,000. This was John`s second win of the season and a real confidence builder. He stated that the competition on this tour is fierce and that is evident with Gateway alum Kevin Stadler`s two wins on the Nationwide Tour. John pointed out how immense the pressure was on this type of developmental tour because "you are playing to put food in your mouth."

Our Saturday Morning Soapbox this week was won by Mike from Phoenix. Mike has some great comments on how he liked that the PGA Championship was held on a course that was 7500 yards. He stated that it was great seeing the best in the world have to hit woods into par fours, similar to what he has to do every weekend. Mike`s take wins him a round of golf for four at the Raven Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead cap and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

Don`t forget, the Wasted Away Again in Bunker to Bunkerville golf tour is going strong again! Be sure to sign up for the next Bunker Tour event on August 28th at Corta Bella Golf Club It is a 7:30 A.M. shotgun start for a four-man scramble with a ton of great prizes for the winners. Be sure to get in on the fun by clicking on the graphic below to book yourself or your group.

Be sure to tune in every Saturday morning from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM to the Bunker to Bunker golf show. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, August 7, 2004,

Bunker to Bunker was live in studio this week with Tiffany and Greg holding down the studio while DJ was taking care of business in Alaska.

Guests included our weekly chat with Kris Long of Golf Southwest. Folks if you have not seen the show yet you need to tune in on Saturday afternoons at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). This is a fun and fast thirty minutes of great golf information.

Chris Stutts, director of the Grey Goose Gateway Tour, called the show to update us on the Tour adding another series in Alabama at the Robert Trent Jones Trail in February 2004. Chris talked about the success of the Tour here in Arizona and how this is becoming an excellent training ground for guys trying to qualify for the Nationwide or PGA Tours. Check out their Website for details on how to get your career started if you are an aspiring professional golfer.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Greg and Tiffany recapped last week’s golf and discussed the super performance of Karen Stupples at the Weetabix Women`s British Open and the great victory that Peter Jacobsen pulled off in the U.S. Senior Open. Both events were fabulous entertainment.

Tiffany and Greg recapped this week’s golf and once again the topic of the Ryder Cup team was bantered around. Things are heating up in the race for the last few spots and the captain’s picks for the September event at Oakland Hills Golf Club. Greg predicts Jay Haas and Scott Verplank and Tiffany predicts Scott Verplank and John Daly.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the B-to-B team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, "Who will be the captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup team?" Tom from Phoenix won the foursome of golf to Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, and a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls for his concise points on why he thinks Scott Verplank and Jay Haas will be chosen. All of the prizes, excluding the foursome, have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. To all of the callers that did not get through, please call in next week with your thoughts.

Also go to our Website and sign up for the next Bunker Tour event on August 28th at Corta Bella Golf Club. Don’t miss out on the fun. Information and the links to book tee times will be posted soon, so keep checking for that.

Make sure to join Tiffany and DJ next week from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. They will be broadcasting live from Anthem Golf & Country Club for the PGA Championship special show. Tiffany and DJ will report all the details you need to keep up with the golf world. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, July 31, 2004

Greg and DJ were live in studio this week. After a quick recap of last week`s successful Wastin` Away Again event at Ocotillo Golf Club, Greg and DJ jumped into a recap of last week on the Professional Tours. DJ pointed out that Scott Verplank seems to be the player that is fighting the hardest to get recognized by Hal Sutton for a captain`s pick for the 2004 Ryder Cup. He has finished in the top 10 the last few weeks and is playing well this week. Greg and DJ discussed the phenomenon of Americans winning their first professional events at the British Opens. Pete Oakley was the newest addition to this list with his win at the British Senior Open. Pete`s only other professional win was the Club Pro Championship a few years ago.

Kris Long of Golf Southwest joined the program to fill us in on his show this week. The Golf Southwest show airs Saturdays at 5:00 pm on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13).

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

DJ and Greg began the recap of this week`s golf. The quality of the leaders at the Buick Open this week is going to assure an exciting finish. Past champions Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk are all at the top with John Daly right on their tails. It is obvious that this golf course produces a lot of birdies and it will be interesting to see if anyone this week can get anywhere close to Robert Wrenn`s record of 32 under. The seniors have back-to-back majors and are playing in the U.S. Senior Open this week. The leader board is full of young guns. One of them will most likely win this week due to having to play 36 holes on Sunday because of rain. Karen Stupples is holding off Annika Sorenstam at the Weetabix Women`s British Open this week. DJ and Greg analyzed how Tiger and Annika are starting to look comfortable in the "bridesmaid" roles on their prospective tours.

David won the Saturday Morning Soapbox this week with his take on not changing the Ryder Cup to allow players like Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. He pointed out that this is one of the most exciting events every two years and "stacking" the European team could cause the matches to not be as close. David`s take wins him a round of golf for four to The Westin Kierland Resort, Spa & Villas, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, and Ahead cap and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

Be sure to tune in every Saturday from 7 to 9:00 A.M. to the Bunker To Bunker Golf show on ESPN radio 860 AM. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, July 24, 2004

The gang was at Ocotillo Golf Club for our monthly Wasted Away Again in Bunker to Bunkerville golf tournament. We had a lot of golf to recap from last week (the shocker of a winner at the British Open) and from this week.

Greg and Tiffany did most of the show because DJ was helping sell raffle tickets and was also "beat the pro" on a par three. This week`s charity was the Christine Cannon foundation. She was the wife of Doug Cannon, our producer of the radio show, who recently lost her life to breast cancer. Our condolences go out to Doug and his family.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

To start off the show, we talked about Todd Hamilton`s great win at the British Open. It was a super ending to a major, especially with Ernie Els in the mix. You have the 2nd ranked golfer in the world against the 59th ranked golfer in the world, going head to head in a playoff. What a story-book ending to the British Open!

Also, Kris Long from Golf Southwest came on to tell us what was on his show tonight. He was focusing on Sedona Golf Resort and its picturesque scenery. His show airs Saturdays at 5:00 pm on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13) Check it out, it is a great show.

Jeff from Advantage Golf also called in and talked about what Advantage Golf offers. He donated all the hole-in-one prizes for our tournament at Ocotillo Golf Club. He offers everything from tee signs to banners to a variety of hole-in-one prizes. For all the information, you can go to the website and check out the details.

Steve Morowitz, the head golf professional from Ocotillo Golf Club came on to tell us about the golf course, the layout, and its history. They have 27 holes of great golf. It is not the typical golf course that you find in the desert. Unbelievably, there is water on 24 of the 27 holes on this terrific course. Now, that might scare a lot of golfers, but the good thing is that on the opposite side of the water there is plenty of room to bail out. If you haven’t experienced this course before, you need to head out there with your friends. It is a true gem in the desert! Ocotillo Golf Club has some great specials going on right now. To find out more, you can go to their website.

Saturday Soapbox this week was about the Ryder Cup points and how strong the Americans are compared to the Europeans. The biggest thing about the Ryder Cup is not having the presence of some great golfers like Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. Should they change the qualifications of the Ryder Cup to be between the Americans and the world? Most of our callers were not for changing the qualification rules. They said that the Ryder Cup has tradition and that the Presidents Cup is the Americans against the world and that shouldn’t change. Adam called in with his take and brought up a great point: Americans are used to playing stroke play (individual) and Europeans are used to match play (team), that is the big difference on why Europeans always shock the US and why they finish so strongly. Adam won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap (both with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo), a foursome of golf to Ocotillo Golf Club, and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

Additionally, we had our winner from the Saturday Soapbox of the last couple of weeks to pick the winner of the British Open. Actually, no one picked the winner, Todd Hamilton, so we selected Bill Blackford who picked Ernie Els, second place winner. Congratulations to Bill who wins a foursome of golf to Dove Valley Ranch Golf Course.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don’t forget to listen to Bunker to Bunker every Saturday morning from 7 to 9:00 A.M. on ESPN radio 860 AM!

Bunker to Bunker, July 17, 2004

Tiffany and Tom Enders were live at Anthem this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and the British Open this week.

To start off the show we talked with Bill from the B.C. Open, the other PGA Tour event going on this week. It has been very rainy over there and play had been suspended twice already. They expected to get the final rounds in and the players were definitely taking advantage of the wet greens. Record low scores were being posted by Notah Begay and Esteban Toledo. Esteban now holds the course record of 61. The other story was the Stadler family, Craig and Kevin. Both were in the top 20, one stroke away from each other. They were not paired together, but were definitely competing against each other.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Also, Kris Long from Golf Southwest came on to tell us what was on his show tonight. His show airs Saturdays at 5:00 pm on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). Check it out--it is a great show!

After the ESPN break, we had the one and only Peter Kessler on. He gave us great insight to the British Open and his thoughts on Thomas Levet, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. He liked the cool nature of Thomas Levet and the way he handled himself on the course. We also talked about his new TV show on the Sunshine Network and about the Perfect Club that he endorses.

Saturday Soapbox this week was about the use of belly putters. Should they be legal or illegal? We had one caller who thought they should be illegal because they looked funny! But, most of our callers were fine with the use of belly putters. Steve, our winner, said that these putters were fine because everyone has the right to use them. If someone thought they were an advantage, they had the right to try it. It is available to everyone and if someone thinks that it is helping the golfer using the belly putter, they should use it. There are no significant statistical results with the belly putter putting it above all the rest. Steve won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap (both with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo), a twosome of golf to Troon North, and a sleeve of Titleist golf balls.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don`t forget next week all three of us are live from 7 – 9 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM at Ocotillo Golf Club for our Wasted Away in Bunker to Bunkerville Golf Tournament.

Bunker to Bunker, July 10, 2004

The Show was broadcast live in studio with Tiffany and Greg on hand to handle the golf news for the weekend. They started with a recap of last week’s golf and discussed how the coverage of the Women`s U.S. Open received poor media coverage. Greg commented on the clinic that Meg Mallon put on Sunday: She never wavered. It was Meg’s second U.S. Women’s Open title in her career.

Kris Long called the show to talk about Golf Southwest on at 5:00 P.M. on.KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). One of Kris’ guests this week was Bunker to Bunker’s own DJ Flanders at Kierland Golf Club. This should be very entertaining.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Brian DeJohn, Head Golf Professional at the TPC at Deere Run called in to give us an update on the John Deere Classic. The team complimented Vijay Singh on being a man of his word and defending his title instead of going over to the British Open early. Greg predicted a first-time winner on the PGA Tour this weekend. (At the time of this writing a playoff was commencing between Mark Hensby and John Morgan. Both have not won on the PGA Tour yet.)

Greg and Tiffany continued recapping this week’s golf with the two of them visiting with Brad Williams at the TPC of Michigan, home of the Ford Senior Players Championship. Discussion quickly moved into the LPGA and Meg Mallon leading the LPGA Canadian Open. Greg predicted that she would be victorious. Tiffany commented how Meg is riding the wave and needs to keep playing while she is hot.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker-to-Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, “Who will win the British Open?” This was a continuation of last week’s Saturday Soapbox with additional callers with great choices this week. The winner will be announced at the remote from Ocotillo Golf Club on July 24th at the second Bunker Tour event. The winner will receive a foursome of to Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, an Ahead golf cap, a $20.00 gift certificate to Golf Discount and a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls. All of the prizes, excluding the foursome of golf, have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. To all of the callers who did not get through, please call in next week with your thoughts.

Don`t forget, the Wasted Away Again in Bunker to Bunkerville golf tour is going strong again! On Saturday, July 24th, we will be playing the Ocotillo Golf Club. It is a 7:30 A.M. shotgun start for a four-man scramble with a ton of great prizes for the winners. Be sure to get in on the fun by clicking on the graphic below to book yourself or your group.

They will be back for the show at Ocotillo Golf Club on July 24th. The Bunker-to-Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, July 3, 2004

The Show was broadcast live in studio with DJ and Greg on hand to handle the golf news for the weekend. They began by recapping last week`s golf and discussing how the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is great for the Stadler family`s golf game as Kevin and his dad, Craig, both won on their respective Tours after Kevin`s interview on the show.

Conversation switched to this week`s golf at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. Head Golf Professional Jeff Rimsnider called into to give us an update about the Cialis Western Open and how the changes to the golf course are keeping the players scores down.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

DJ and Greg also gave a few predictions about the Women`s U.S. Open. Greg says that an amateur could possibly win and DJ picks Annika. Both choices are excellent predictions.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker-to-Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, "Who will win the British Open?" There were several callers with great choices. We will conduct the same soapbox next week to gather more predictions. The winner will be announced at the remote from Ocotillo Golf Club on July 24th at the second Bunker Tour event. The winner will receive a foursome of golf to Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, a $20.00 gift certificate to Golf Discount and a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls. Bunker to Bunker, June 26, 2004

DJ Greg and Tiffany were live at Marriott`s Wildfire Golf Club for the first of many Wasted Away in Bunkerville events. Over 100 of our most rabid listeners were there to experience golf Jimmy Buffett style.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

First on the program was Tim Morgan, Director of Agronomy for the USGA. Tim came on the program to fill our listeners in on what really happened last week at the Open. He mentioned how it is his responsibility to make the golf course "a true test." Well, we all know they did that. Tim also mentioned that the course conditions would not have gotten that bad on Sunday if the wind did not blow on Saturday night. The wind really started to howl when the sprinklers went on causing the water to not properly wet the greens. This caused the course to be harder and faster than anticipated. He also mentioned that Phil and Retief`s rounds were incredible to be able to be even near par.

Next on the program was Steve Moore, Head Professional at TPC at Avenel, the host of the Booz Allen Classic. Steve was quick to point out the scoring difference between this week and last. He mentioned that this course gave the players the opportunity to be very aggressive and he expected low scoring throughout the remainder of the weekend. Steve touched on Charles Howell`s putting during his course-record 61 on Thursday. He also mentioned that the weather looked good through the weekend and felt that it would be tough to catch Adam Scott who looked to be playing very well.

During our Saturday Soapbox we asked our listeners to call in and share their opinions on the course conditions last week at the Open. Amazingly almost all of the callers were supportive of the conditions. Most of the callers felt that all of the players in contention were playing the same conditions which was fair. They also went on to say that the scores got lower as the leaders finished and the scores were higher for the players out of contention, which makes sense. Chris on a mobile was the winner with his take on the subject. He wins an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead cap, a $20 gift certificate to Golf Discount, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls and a round of golf for four to Marriott`s Wildfire Golf Club.

Be sure to tune in every Saturday from 7 to 9:00 A.M. to the Bunker to Bunker golf show on ESPN Radio 860 AM.

Bunker to Bunker, June 19, 2004

Greg and DJ were on remote at Anthem Golf & Country Club for the U.S. Open while Tiffany was celebrating her birthday. Right out of the gate Greg and DJ were joined by Tim Morgan, Head Agronomist from the USGA. Tim was out on the course at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course setting hole placements. Tim touched on the tough course conditions and how the wind has not allowed the greens to get fully watered. He also mentioned that if the wind continued to blow this hard the greens could become unplayable on Sunday. He stated that the greens were already running over 12 on the Stimpmeter and the inability to get some good water on the greens could be devastating. Before leaving Tim allowed DJ and Greg to set the 9th hole pin location at front right for Sunday`s play. Keep a look out for that.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Next on the program was Kris Long from the local "Golf Southwest," seen Saturdays at 5:00 PM on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). After a quick discussion about the US Open, Kris filled us in on his show for this week which included a continued conversation with Johnny Miller and which is featuring Orange Tree Golf Resort as the course of the week. Kris will join us every week on the Bunker to Bunker golf show.

Dan Budzius, General Manager at Anthem Golf & Country Club, joined the program to discuss the U.S. Open. First off, Dan touched on David Duvall`s horrible play at the US Open. He mentioned his surprise that David would choose one of the toughest tests in golf to be his first tournament after a seven-month layoff. We also discussed how Shinnecock looked more like a European golf course and that we would not be surprised to see a foreigner win the event. Greg stood on his pick from last week with Ernie Els while Dan and DJ both liked Phil Mickelson.

Steve from Scottsdale won the Saturday Soapbox with his take that Tiger Woods will not win another major unless he gets with a swing coach. His take wins him a round of golf to Longbow Golf Club, an Antigua whisper golf shirt, and Ahead golf cap and a $20 gift certificate to Golf Discount.

Be sure to tune in next week from 7-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM when DJ, Tiffany and Greg will be live at Marriott`s Wildfire Golf Club for the first Bunker Tour event.

Bunker to Bunker, June 12, 2004

The show was broadcast live from Orange Tree Golf Resort. DJ and Greg were on location for the annual Lumpy`s Army golf event. DJ opened the show with Greg and then went out to help one of the Lumpy Teams in the four-person scramble. DJ says he was invited because he fits the part better than Greg.

Randy Wittig, the Director of Golf at Orange Tree Golf Resort, was gracious enough to sit in for the last 90 minutes of the show. Greg recapped the previous week`s golf events and then the discussion turned to next week and the U.S. Open. Prior to DJ going out on the golf course, he predicted that Phil Mickelson would prevail. Greg is picking Ernie Els or Vijay Singh. Guest host Randy Wittig was going with a dark horse in Padrig Harrington. That was almost a good prediction for this weekend`s Buick Classic.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

John Kennedy, the Director of Golf at Westchester Country Club, called the show to talk about the Buick Classic and its traditional scheduling the week before the U.S. Open. The rough is long and the fairways are narrow. John picked Davis Love III for the winner next week. Wow, nobody is picking Tiger.

PGA Tour player, Kevin Stadler, son of the Walrus, called the show. Kevin recently qualified for the U.S. Open and shared his thoughts and goals for next week. Kevin has had a great first year on Tour and is excited about playing Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. He was gracious enough to call the show before heading up to Shinnecock for a practice round.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker-to-Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, "What is your favorite golf-related TV commercial?" There were several callers with great reasons for their choosing the commercial that they liked the best. However, Dave from Wickenburg, was the winner for his contribution about the kids in the First Tee commercial, learning life`s lessons. That advertisement is what the PGA is all about. Dave wins a foursome of golf to the Phoenician Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt and an Ahead golf cap, a $20.00 gift certificate to Golf Discount and a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls. All of the prizes, excluding the foursome have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. To all of the callers that did not get through, please call in next week with your thoughts.

Once again, a special thanks to the staff at the Orange Tree Golf Resort and Randy Wittig for lending a hand with this week`s show. Make sure to join DJ and Greg next week from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. They will be live at Anthem Golf & Country Club for the U.S. Open edition of the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show. This show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit `em straight

Bunker to Bunker, June 5, 2004

Greg and Tiffany were in studio this morning to recap all the exciting golf from last week and to discuss next week`s golf news, too.

To start off the show we talked with Larry Dornisch, the Head Golf Professional from Muirfield Village Golf Club, where the PGA Tour players are this weekend. Larry talked about the Memorial Tournament and what this it means to Jack Nicklaus. The golf course saw a lot of water last week, but this week the skies have been clear, making it very playable. Larry`s pick to win was Ernie Els and Tiffany picked Fred Couples.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Next we spoke with Chris Stutts from the Grey Goose Gateway Tour. This tour started about three years ago and has grown to be a bigger tournament than the NGA Hooters or Golden Bear tours. Chris also has extended the tour into San Diego, Phoenix and North Carolina! This tour really has some of the best players ever so these are the guys to watch. The players come from over six countries to compete and will do so over the summer months in Phoenix. Check out their Website so you can go to a tournament or two and support this great group of young golfers.

That was just the first half of the show! After the ESPN break, we started the Saturday Soapbox which was a spelling bee. It was in honor of the National Spelling Bee this week and we had our callers spell an easy word, a medium word and a hard word, all of which were golf related. Doug Mark from Chandler was our winner and the first one to spell all three words correctly. He spelled Valhalla, Omar Uresti, and Peter Oosterhuis. Congratulations to Doug who won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap (both with the Bunker to Bunker logos), a foursome of golf to The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls and a $20 gift certificate to Golf Discount.

Last but not least, we spoke with Rob, the Director of Golf from the The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa. He filled us in on some great summer specials the golf course and resort are having this year for the locals. The Boulders has 36 holes of golf that will give you views and ambiance that you will not find anywhere else in the Valley. The amazing thing about the golf course is how the boulders stack on top of each other and never fall. To find out more information about the golf course, you can visit their Website.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in to ESPN Radio 860 AM. Don`t forget next week when Greg and DJ are in studio from 7-9:00 A.M. for another exciting show.

Bunker to Bunker, May 29, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week, too.

To start off the show we talked with John Goen from the TPC at Southwind, where the PGA Tour is playing this week at the St. Jude Fedex Classic. He talked about how the greens are small and elevated with the balls rolling off to the valley, so it is target golf for the players. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday is supposed to be more wind that will become a major factor on the final days. After this tournament, the TPC at Southwind is closing until October to do major renovations to the course and clubhouse. They are changing their greens, rebuilding the clubhouse, narrowing the fairways, adding trees, bunkers, and only about 150 yards to the course.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Next we spoke to Kris Long from Golf Southwest about what was in store for his TV show that can be seen every Saturday at 5:00 P.M. on KAZ-TV (Ch. 27, Cox 13). This week they are taking a look back at how World War II affected the game of golf. They are also recapping the ladies` U.S. Open qualifier to talk about those who qualified for the next stage of the U.S. Women`s Open. Sun Ridge Canyon Golf Club is the golf course of the week and there will be a televised tour of this beautiful golf course. So don`t miss this weekly 30-minute show to keep up on the latest in golf in the southwest.

This Saturday soapbox was all about what the listeners look for when choosing a golf course to play. Is it value, condition, service? Especially with summer upon us, all the golf courses discount their green fees, so what does a golfer look for when choosing one for the next round of golf? We had a lot of callers with different opinions. Most felt it was value, but with value comes everything bundled together--service, condition, and price. The winner this week was Bob Pascente who would like to see an incentive program for the locals who support the golf course during the summer and reward them during the season when the prices are higher. Bob receives a foursome of golf to the beautiful Whirlwind Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, and a $20 gift certificate to Golf Discount.

Next we spoke with Rich Carter, the Director of Golf at Whirlwind Golf Club. Rich picked our winner for the Saturday Soapbox and told us about some great specials they are running right now. He also talked about the Nationwide Tour, which is held at his course in October, and explained what really goes into putting on a PGA Tour event. For more information or to book a tee time, you can visit their Website.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in to ESPN Radio 860 AM. Don`t forget next week when Tiffany and Greg are in studio from 7 – 9 A.M. for another exciting show.

Bunker to Bunker, May 22, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio today. After a quick recap of last week`s golf we welcomed Peter Rippa of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) to the program. Peter filled us in on their championship which is going to be held at Grayhawk Golf Club over the Memorial Day weekend. The AJGA has produced talent such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Kelli Burton, Kelli Kuehne and Wendy Ward to just to name a few. The event is free for spectators so call Grayhawk Golf Club for more details.

Next it was on to an update of the Bank of America Colonial event in Fort Worth. Two Texans, Justin Leonard and JL Lewis are currently in the lead with past champions Sergio Garcia, Kenny Perry and Phil Mickelson hot on their heels. DJ pointed out how Justin bogied the last hole of his final round last year and shot 61. This is a golf course that he is very comfortable on and he will be a force to contend with. Wind is the big story coming out of Fort Worth and Justin Leonard has one of the best wind games on the PGA, that is why he is a British Open Champion. Tiffany, on the other hand, liked tour rookie Zach Johnson. Tiffany pointed out that his win earlier in the year spurred his confidence and will give him the experience needed down the stretch to win.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`e going right to Bunkerville!

Tom from Phoenix won a round of Golf to Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, an Ahead Golf Cap, sleeve of Titleist Golf Balls and a $20 certificate to Golf Discount for his take on the Saturday Morning Soapbox. The topic was, "What would be the one thing you would change about the game of golf?" Tom would like to see golfers be able to get free relief from all divots in the fairway. His thinking being why should the golfer be penalized for a drive in the fairway? Our listeners had several great responses ranging from: No out of bounds penalty, women playing an LPGA event at Pebble Beach or Augusta National and PGA and LPGA playing concurrent major championships on the same golf course.

Aaron Badel, Head Professional at Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, was next on the program. Aaron filled us in on this next Gary Panks golf course in West Peoria. This golf course is more of a links style golf course with large fairways and native grasses. For more information visit their Website.

Remember, you never know what you might miss every Saturday morning from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show. So be sure to tune in to ESPN Radio 860 AM to catch all the action.

Bunker to Bunker, May 15, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week, too. We talked about Joey Sindelar’s win last week where he was up against Aaron Oberholser in a play-off, and Joey showed no nerves at all while chalking up his victory. Se Ri Pak won last week on the LPGA, giving her enough points to be enshrined into the LPGA Hall of Fame. This won’t happen until 2008 because you have to be on tour at least ten years before you can be enshrined.

First guest was Paul Ernst, the Director of Golf at the TPC at Four Seasons Resort and Club in Irving, Texas. The PGA Tour players are playing both courses there: The Cottonwood, which played easier than the TPC course. Now the players will concentrate on just the TPC course for the weekend. Paul gave us insight on how the players manage the course and why Tiger Woods seems to always play well here. He said that Tiger usually comes from behind and shoots low scores over the weekend. He’s switched his method this week leading after Friday’s round, so we will have to wait and see how Tiger does with this system.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Next guest was Brian Anderson from the Golf Channel. He gave us his opinion of Johnny Miller’s new book in which he says that Tiger has already hit his peak. He loves Johnny Miller and his tell-it-like-it-is approach. We also talked about the TPC at Four Seasons Resort and Club and the players from the Nationwide Tour that are now on the PGA Tour. One main player who has moved his way up is Aaron Oberholser. There are a handful of these former Nationwide Tour players on the PGA Tour that we need to keep our eyes on.

The Saturday Soapbox was about the new book from Johnny Miller and its emphasis on Tiger’s golf game. He says that Tiger is concentrating on boating, love life, and extra-curricular activities and only putting about 80% of his energy into his golf game. We had our callers sound off on what their opinions where of Johnny Miller and using Tiger to sell his new book. The winner this week was James Miliotes from Cave Creek. James says that Johnny is doing what he has always done because he tells it like it is. He also made a good point by saying that Tiger is not affected by what the media says about his game. James won an Ahead golf cap, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, a $20 gift certificate to Golf Discount, a sleeve of Titliest golf balls, and a foursome of golf to Legend Trail Golf Club. Congratulations James!

Next we spoke with Dale Balvin, the Director of Golf at Legend Trail Golf Club. Dale picked James as the best answer and told us about Legend Trail Golf Club. The golf course is a desert-target type golf course and is located in Cave Creek. He also was quick to mention that it is about 7 degrees cooler in Cave Creek, so come check them out especially during the summer. You can find great summer discounts on their Website.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don’t forget next week when Tiffany and DJ are in studio from 7 to 9 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM.

Bunker to Bunker, May 8, 2004

The Show was broadcast live from the ESPN Studios with Greg and Tiffany enjoying the duties this week.

Tiffany and Greg touched on last week`s golf and another Vijay Singh Monday victory. The discussion as to who should be the number-one golfer in the world continued. Greg says Vijay and Tiffany thinks it is Phil because of his Master`s victory. It was nice having Tiffany back on for the banter.

Tom Enders, part-time guest host and full-time Director of Sales for Marriott Golf, called in and graciously donated the foursome of golf to Camelback Golf Club for this week`s Saturday Soapbox. Tom reminded us of how he predicted that Phil would win the Master`s. Law of averages had to catch up sometime since Tom has been predicting this for four years. Camelback Golf Club and all of the Marriott Golf courses have some great golf deals going on right now, so don`t miss out on the savings at wonderful courses.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Barney Adams, of Adams Golf called in to talk about his new Hybrid golf clubs and to suggest what clubs most golfers should have in their bags. Barney mentioned how the hybrids have taken off on the PGA Tour and that amateur golfers have not gotten on board yet because they don`t understand their need for the clubs. He suggests playing with clubs with more loft like the Hybrids. This will get the ball in the air and it will probably go farther than it will when using a hard-to-hit long iron. Try it because Barney is right on the mark with this philosophy.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker-to-Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, "Open Mic Saturday: What`s your beef or what do you like about golf today?" There were several callers discussing thoughts ranging from pace of play to how bad the announcers are who do golf commentary. Dennis Murray of Scottsdale nailed the prize this week with his discussion about pace of play needing to improve. It`s rather ridiculous how so many golfers play slowly due to their own thoughtlessness while playing. Come on golfers, play ready golf to pick up the pace. Dennis wins a foursome of golf to Camelback Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, an Ahead golf cap, and a new prize added to the package, one dozen Titleist NXT golf balls. All of the prizes, excluding the foursome, have the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. To all of the callers that did not get through, please call in next week with your thoughts.

Chip Garris, with Nike called in to talk about all of the hot new equipment at Nike. The Ignite driver and irons are a must try and DJ plays the Slingshot Irons. What does that tell you about the need for the right clubs in the right hands?

Greg and Tiffany wrapped up the show with a plug for Tiffany doing the weather from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning on ABC 15. Tune in and watch the prettiest lady on the radio do the weather. She is a future star.

Make sure to join Tiffany and DJ next week on ESPN Radio 860 AM from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. as they recap the Wachovia Championship and talk about the Champions, Nationwide and LPGA tours. The Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, May 1, 2004

The Show was broadcast live from the ESPN Studios with Greg and DJ on the microphones this week. Tiffany was off to the Bahamas.

DJ and Greg touched on last week’s golf and Vijay Singh’s Monday victory. The discussion centered around who should be the number-one golfer in the world. Greg says Vijay and DJ says that Phil should be in the top spot. The debate will rage on through the season.

Long-time friend of the show, Peter Kessler, was a guest on the show this week. We were able to deliver breaking news: Peter has a new golf show that will premiere on Tuesday, May 18th on the Sunshine Network, part of the Fox Sports package on Direct TV. The first show will feature Gary Player so be sure to tune in for this great new golf show.

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker-to-Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, “The Champions Tour will no longer allow the golfers to use carts starting in 2005, how do you feel about that?” There were several callers, with only one getting through. Denny Grave from Chandler felt that the young guns are coming up and carts should not be used. Congratulations to Denny. He wins a foursome of golf to Longbow Golf Club, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt and an Ahead golf cap, both with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. On a belated note, DJ and Greg announced Bill Blackford of Peoria won the Pre-Master’s Saturday Soapbox with his call that Phil Mickelson will win and Mike Wier will be the biggest disappointment.

Greg and DJ wrapped up the show with a golf tip by Greg. The tip will be available in an upcoming issue of Arizona Golfer newspaper. The tip deals with learning how to hit the ball off your knees and the benefits of the drill. Try it and have fun with this helpful swing method. The most important thing to remember in attempting this is to keep your shoulders level back and through.

Make sure to join DJ and Greg again next week from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. They will recap the HP Classic of New Orleans and talk about the Champions, Nationwide and LPGA tours. The Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. Hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, April 24, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week, too.

First up was Eric Meyers of Callaway Golf. He talked about the popular ERC Fusion Driver and the new fairway woods to go along. The driver is very popular (used by Annika Sorenstam and Craig Perry) and the fairway woods will be a great addition. The look and feel is the same as a driver which gives you great confidence when you set up to the ball with any of the metal clubs. Also, new to the Callaway family is the Tour Blue, their attractive titanium putter. All are available at your local golf shop.

Starting Saturday, May 1 is a new golf show called Golf Southwest. The show, hosted by Kris Long on AZ TV Cox cable channel 13, will air every Saturday at 5:00 P.M. They will feature a golf course a week, playing lessons with various golf professionals, and will keep up with all the local golf news in Arizona. That was just the first half of the show!

We love you Jimmy Buffett, but we`re going right to Bunkerville!

Were you addicted to reality TV`s The Big Break? Well, we had Randy Block, the "camp counselor," on to talk about his experience on the Big Break and his elimination fourth from last during the show. What a great personality this guy has, as was obvious from watching the show. Since the show ended, he tried to qualify for the Barton Creek Golf tournament, but missed the cut. He noted that his life has changed considerably since being on the show: He`s gotten married and people ask him all the time for his autograph and picture. But one thing stays the same, he loves the game of golf. The Big Break, which airs on the Golf Channel, is taking applicants for Big Break 2, so get your tapes in now.

The Saturday Soapbox was about the controversial call on Stewart Cink`s waste bunker play. Cink moved loose impediment behind his ball while in a waste bunker and we asked our listeners what they thought of the call to not penalize him. Several said that it was not a penalty because he did not improve his lie (which is the ruling that took place), but some said that it was blatant that he dug a trench that sat his ball up in the waste bunker. Ron from Phoenix said it was no different than Tiger Woods moving the boulder at the Phoenix Open a few years ago. Ron wins a foursome of golf to Ocotillo, 2 movie passes to the showing of Bobby Jones, a Stroke of Genius, an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, and an Ahead golf cap, both with the Bunker-to-Bunker logo on them. Congratulations Ron and thanks for reminding us that if we know the rules well enough, we can use them to our advantage.

Next we spoke with Steve Morowitz, the Head Golf Professional at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona. Steve talked about the beautiful golf resort and how 24 of the 27 holes have a water feature on them. It is not your typical desert golf course that you find in Arizona, Ocotillo offers much, much more. Also, Ocotillo is a great place to have the wedding of your dreams. They are running great specials this month, which you can find on their Website.

It was a jam-packed show, so thanks to all our listeners who tuned in. Be sure catch Greg and DJ in studio next week as they talk about all the latest in golf on Bunker to Bunker from 7-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 A.M.

Bunker to Bunker, April 17, 2994

This week`s post-Masters recap show was broadcast live from the ESPN Studios. Tiffany and Greg were at the microphones while DJ was off enjoying his fifth wedding anniversary.

The discussions obviously were all centered around the Masters. Tiffany and Greg touched on all of the great happenings of the event and Phil Mickelson`s first MAJOR victory. No Phil bashing was allowed. It was a consensus that Phil is going to be a great champion and win more majors now that he has that elusive first one under his belt.

Charles Kingsbaker of Troon Golf called the show to share information with the listeners about the Troon Challenge that will begin in May for all amateur golfers. Check the Website out for all the details on this great event.

Long time friend of the show, Peter Kessler, called in and he, Greg and Tiffany discussed how this year`s Masters fit into the history of the event. Peter commented that he felt it was among the top three. The other top two were the ‘75 and `86 Masters that Jack Nicklaus had won. Peter will be back on the show in three weeks to break the news about a new golf show he will be doing. So, make sure to tune in for that announcement.

Saturday Soapbox, the time that the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker to Bunker team, was quite spirited. The topic this week was, "Where does this Masters rank in the history of the event for you?" There were several great opinions from callers. Frank from Phoenix was the winner with his comments regarding the 1975 Masters as being the best and that Phil`s victory was easily in the top 5. Congratulations to Frank and all of the callers who were able to get through. Frank won a foursome of golf to Dove Valley Ranch, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt and an Ahead golf cap both with the Bunker to Bunker logo on them.

Greg and Tiffany wrapped up the show with more talk about the Masters and how they are looking forward to the U.S. Open to see what Phil can do there.

Make sure to join DJ and Tiffany next week on ESPN Radio 860 AM from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. as they recap the MCI Heritage and talk about the Shell Houston Open. The Bunker to Bunker golf show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. So, hit ‘em straight and tune in next week.

Bunker to Bunker, April 10, 2004

The Show was broadcast live from Anthem Country Club, home of the Bunker to Bunker major championship live remotes for 2004. DJ and Greg were on this week while Tiffany was at Pebble Beach playing golf and marrying off a friend.

The discussions this week obviously were all centered around the Masters, with many story lines for DJ and Greg to cover. Discussion about Arnold Palmer`s 50th consecutive Masters had the spotlight through Friday. Greg described what Arnold Palmer has meant, not only to Augusta, but to the game of golf in general. Arnold Palmer is the greatest person to ever play this game. More on the Masters later.

Kris Strauss, Director of Sales for OB Sports and Longbow Golf Club, called in to give an update on the Heather Farr Classic junior golf event being contested on the new Longbow Golf Club. Ninety of the top junior boys and thirty of the top junior girls were on hand for this American Junior Golf Association event. The state of Arizona was well represented in the event. Phillip Francis, of Scottsdale, a friend of the Bunker to Bunker Show and winner of several junior titles, was the top name in the boys division from the valley. Young Cheyenne Woods, whose uncle is Tiger, will battle the other girls from around the country. Kris also informed the listeners that there are great specials on green fees available at Longbow.

DJ and Greg also talked about Annika Sorenstam`s 50th victory. She is without a doubt one of the best modern day golfers in the world.

The day`s topic returned to the Masters, Phil Mickelson and who is going to be this year`s champ. One observation that Greg made was that if Phil wins this week the media will still be relentlessly hard on him. Phil`s win would be one of the greatest at Augusta, but he can win and still lose.

Saturday Soapbox, the time when the listeners get to sound off on the topic chosen by the Bunker to Bunker team, was quite spirited. Chris Lamberti, the Director of Golf at Anthem, sat in with DJ and Greg for this segment as the judge. The winner receives a foursome to the NEW Longbow Golf Club, an Antigua Golf Shirt and an Ahead golf cap for presenting the best discussion on the topic of the week. This week`s topic was, "Is there anything wrong with Tiger and, if so, what?" Ken Roman of Scottsdale took the prize for his in-depth analysis of Tiger`s swing and priorities. Chris also awarded Dave Kansorka of Surprise a foursome to the NEW Ironwood Golf Course at Anthem for his discussion being close to Chris` opinion that nothing is wrong with Tiger.

Greg, DJ and Chris wrapped up the show with more talk about the Masters and commented that if Phil is "in the hunt," the ratings will be very high. Let`s sit back and enjoy the weekend of the most viewed golf event in the world.

Make sure to join DJ and Tiffany next week on ESPN Radio 860 AM from 7:00 to 9:00 A.M. as they recap the Masters and talk about the MCI Heritage Classic being contested on Hilton Head Island. The Bunker to Bunker Golf Show is the most fun you can have when you are not playing golf. So don`t miss the lively discussions and remember to hit ‘em straight.

Bunker to Bunker, April 3, 2004

The Bunker-to-Bunker team was live in studio. Tiffany and DJ were on holiday so Greg invited Jack LaRue, head golf professional at Desert Springs Golf Club in Surprise, AZ, to join the show for the day. Jack was a great stand-in.

This week`s show was very fast paced. It was highlighted by Saturday Soapbox dealing with a discussion about who will win The Masters and who will be the biggest disappointment. None of the callers predicted Tiger to be the winner, while one caller did think Tiger would be the biggest disappointment. More on this later.

Greg recapped last week`s golf with Adam Scott surviving at TPC at Sawgrass to win the Players Championship. His second shot on the 18th hole was the focus of this recap. Along with this was the fact that John Daley held on to finish in the top 10 on the money list to qualify for The Masters. Don`t write big John off. He has a chance and will definitely be a fan favorite. Greg also recapped the Kraft Nabisco (Dinah Shore) Championship LPGA event last week. Grace Park made a birdie on the last hole to win her first major event. This after Aree Song made a 30-foot eagle putt on the last hole to really put the pressure on. Way to go Grace.

Scott Reid from the Southwest Section of the PGA called in to talk about the upcoming U.S. Home Senior Arizona Open to be contested at Heritage Highlands Golf & Country Club in Marana, AZ north of Tucson. Players like Joe Huber, Terry Carlson, R.W. Eaks, Greg Harmon and many others will compete for the title in this 54-hole event. On Thursday of this coming week Grayhawk Golf Club will host the Hospice Charity Tournament to raise money for the local hospice. Last year the event raised almost $50,000.00. This pro-am format will be the first opportunity for some of the best professionals in the Section to start up their season and to help a great cause raise some cash.

Greg and Jack recapped this week in golf and Jack mentioned how the golfers that have played in the week`s event before the Masters have finished in the top ten three out of the last five years. Jack also reminded our listeners that Mike Weir missed the cut at the BellSouth Classic in 2003 and went on to win The Masters one week later.

Prior to Saturday`s Soapbox beginning Jack announced the winner of this week`s contest. The prize was golf for two at Pebble Beach later in April and the winner`s name was drawn from golfers who had played at Desert Springs Golf Club, Cimarron Golf Club, Granite Falls North, or Granite Falls South. Congratulations to our winner Tony Giordano. Tony if you don`t know whom to ask, call Greg. I can clear my schedule easily.

Saturday Soapbox is the segment of the show that provides our listeners the opportunity to call in to share their thoughts. The topic this week was, "Who will win the Masters and who will be the biggest disappointment?" There were several callers who eloquently expressed their opinions. The callers` comments were recorded and with the winner of this week`s Saturday Soapbox to be announced April 17th. The winner`s prize package will include an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap, both with the Bunker to Bunker logos, and a round of golf for four at one of the Sun City Grand golf courses compliments of Jack LaRue. Thanks to all of you who participated in this topic. Be sure to listen this week to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Greg and Jack wrapped up the Show with Greg`s tip presented by Golf Discount dealing with the "pull or over-the-top" golf shot. Greg described the best way to insure against this shot is to see your left shoulder behind the golf ball at the top of the back swing and to allow the hips to rotate through the golf shot prior to the upper body rotating through the golf shot. Practice this and the ball will not go left.

Remember to tune in next week for the broadcast on Saturday from 7:00-9:00 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM. Greg, DJ and Tiffany will be broadcasting the special Masters edition of the show from Anthem Country Club. So for now, keep it between the ropes.

Bunker to Bunker, March 27, 2004

The Bunker-to-Bunker team was live in studio and Tiffany and Greg were in rare form.

This week`s show was very fast paced. It was highlighted by Saturday Soapbox dealing with a discussion about the PGA Tour players whining about everything on tour from Davis Love III dealing with the heckler to Kenny Perry complaining to Commissioner Finchem about Johnny Miller`s comments about his golf swing. Tiffany recapped last week`s golf in Orlando where Chad Campbell was victorious (DJ`s prediction) at the Bay Hill Inventional.

Kris Strauss, the Director of Marketing for OB Sports called the show to talk about the redesigned Longbow Golf Club in Mesa and the upcoming AJGA Heather Farr Junior Classic. There are a lot of great things happening at Longbow. If you have not been there yet, make a point to go out there soon.

Jim Sowerwine, inventor of the Inside Approach teaching aid, was next up. This device can be seen on the Golf Channel and by going to insideapproach.com. This is the best teaching aid to help golfers get instant feedback and it works so well you get a six-swing guarantee.

Jim Poole, Head Golf Professional at the TPC at Sawgrass, called in to give us the update on the Players Championship. The golf course has the players` respect. Jim gave insight into the players and their whining as well. However he did mention that there was not much whining going on this week. Greg noted that being at PGA Tour HQ may have something to do with that. Tiffany feels that Jerry Kelly or Adam Scott will be victorious this week. Greg said he thinks that it is Ernie Els` turn to win the Players Championship.

Before getting into the real Saturday Soapbox, Greg got on his soapbox about Tiger Woods saying that he does not need Butch Harmon any longer and Rosie Jones exploiting the gay community by coming out last week that she is gay (Rosie, everybody already knew that) because she got a major endorsement contract from her gay/lesbian travel agency. Greg`s point was, who cares about your lifestyle? What goes on in your home does not need to be public knowledge. Rosie turned her alternative lifestyle into a marketing campaign to benefit herself.

Then the real Saturday Soapbox segment began. This segment provides our listeners the opportunity to call in to share their thoughts. The topic this week was: "The PGA Tour players whining about everything and sounding like spoiled babies. Is it justified or should they just play golf?" There were several callers that eloquently expressed their opinions. Will of Scottsdale won the prize package which included an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap, and foursome of golf to Longbow Golf Club for his summarizing the fact that all of the players are playing the same golf course and that they just need to play golf. Congratulations Will. Thanks to all of you that participated in this topic and listen this week to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Greg and Tiffany wrapped up the show with Greg`s tip, presented by Golf Discount, dealing with what to do after you hit a bad golf shot. How should you handle this problem? Greg stated that the first thing is not to panic or try to re-invent the wheel. Do your venting and then forget about the previous shot since it is over and you can`t have a mulligan. You must focus on the fundamentals and your target. Next, take a couple of good practice swings to clear out the negative thoughts and muscle memory. Finally, step up to the shot and swing to your target. Remember, unless you are hitting 10,000 golf balls a day, you are going to have bad shots. Don`t compound those shots by getting out of your game plan. This will take a lot of practice and discipline but you can be assured that it will work for you.

Remember to tune in next week for the broadcast on Saturday from 7:00-9:00 on ESPN Radio 860. DJ and Tiffany will be off and Greg will have a guest host to be determined this week. So for now, keep it between the ropes.

Bunker to Bunker, March 20, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week.

To start off the show we talked with Tom Molitus, Tournament Chairman of the LPGA Safeway International Presented By Coca Cola Golf Tournament, being held this week at Superstition Mountain Country Club. They have 90 of the top 100 players playing with Annika Sorenstam leading the way after two rounds--surprise, surprise. They are having record attendance and great weather to go along with the terrific field. Next week is the LPGA`s first major of the 2004 season.

Next we spoke with Tom Enders, the golf sales manager for Marriott Golf. He donated a foursome of golf to Wildfire Golf Club, which is on the property of the J.W. Marriott located just North of the 101 off Tatum Blvd. They have great specials for locals on their Website.

That was just the first half of the show! After the ESPN break, we had the great pleasure of talking with the voice of golf, Peter Kessler. He is the endorser for The Perfect Club and swears that you cannot hit a bad shot with this club. We also asked him about Michelle Wie playing on the different tours. His input, with which which Tiffany agrees, is that she is not going to hit the ball better as she matures, but she will put more of her good shots together to become the next Tiger on the LPGA. The Masters is right around the corner and Peter`s input was it is an open field. With Tiger not sure where his drives are going to go, anyone can step up and take the title. This is a great time for Phil Mickelson to show us what he can do and win his first major. As always, it is great picking Peter`s brain about everything going on in the game of golf.

On Saturday Soapbox this week we talked about favorite commentators and why. With Johnny Miller and Ken Venturi in the news making dumb comments, we wanted to know who our listeners did like. The winner this week for the Saturday Soapbox was Mike Kamrath. Mike said he had a love/hate relationship with Johnny Miller. He said that Johnny has good things to say, but also doesn`t seem to be lacking in the dumb comments either. He definitely gives Mike and his friends things to talk about. Either they agree with him or make fun of his comments. Mike wins a foursome of golf to Wildfire Golf Club, an Ahead golf cap and an Antigua Whisper golf shirt.

Last, but not least, we talked with Tom McGrath of ProFit. He explained what ProFit is and how they work. They really understand how the golf club should fit a person and explain that in a way that the average person understands. If you want to shoot the best golf ever, you have to be fit with the right clubs. He is located at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don`t forget next week Tiffany and Greg are in studio from 7 to 9 A.M. on ESPN Radio 860 AM.

Bunker to Bunker, March 13, 2004

Greg and DJ were in studio this week. After a quick recap of last week`s results, Greg and DJ welcomed Don Beattie, Director of Golf at CC at Mirasol, which is hosting the Honda Classic. Don pointed out the difficulty of the golf course was the big story so far this week. This is the PGA Tour`s first stop here and the newness of the course is definitely a factor. Don also noted how the wind has not blown yet this week and if it does the scores will get even higher. In summary, he mentioned how he expected to see Davis Love III make a move during the weekend because he is such a good putter on Bermuda greens.

Brian Anderson, host of live golf events on The Golf Channel, was next on the program. Brian jumped right in discussing Johnny Miller`s comments last week about Craig Parry`s golf swing. Brian stated that he did not think that Johnny`s intention was to be offensive, but he can understand why some viewers might have taken it that way. He also mentioned how Craig got his "revenge" by holing out the shot during the playoff. Not too bad for a guy "whose swing would make Ben Hogan turn over in his grave." While on the program Brian also wanted to discuss his disappointment in Ken Venturi`s comments on Arnold Palmer "cheating" to win the 1958 Masters. Brian feels that this comment was in poor taste and a selfish way to sell books.

Tom from Phoenix won our Bunker to Bunker prize package for the Saturday Morning Soapbox with his great take on the Ken Venturi situation. Tom stated that, "Ken needs to look at himself and write an autobiography, that would sell books. This would be a book about drinking, beating your wife and being a guy that everyone loves to hate." Tom`s passionate remarks won him a round of golf to Granite Falls, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt and Ahead Golf Cap.

Be sure to tune in every week to the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show on ESPN radio 860 from 7-9:00 A.M. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, March 6, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this week. After a quick recap of last week`s golf, DJ and Tiffany jumped right into some early-round coverage of the Ford Championship at Doral. Tiffany and DJ noted how the leaderboard was full of talent with the names to watch being Goosen and Verplank. DJ filled our listeners in on how Todd Hamilton was the money leader last year on the Japanese Tour and a name that you will see at the top of a lot of events this year.

Pomp Braswell, Canadian PGA Tour player, called into the program to discuss the challenges of being an African-American player on any tour. Pomp discussed how he is in Tiger`s shadow no matter what he does and that the bar is raised for himself and all other African American`s on the respective tours. Pomp was quick to add that he does not use this as an excuse, but a motivator to succeed. Pomp also pointed out that the country has several other African-American players that are good enough to compete on the tours but cannot support themselves financially. He wished that Tiger would provide some financial support for these individuals but doubts that he ever will.

Grace Park, LPGA Tour player, was next on the show. First, we sang a terrible rendition of Happy Birthday to her–and she didn`t hang up–showing what nice person she is. Grace then filled us in on her lofty goals for 2004. She stated how she is more motivated than ever to "beat Annika". She has been working out in the off season to keep up with Annika`s increased distance. Grace, known as one of the most fashion-forward individuals on the LPGA, filled us in on the importance of looking good to attract more of an audience. She stated that the LPGA needs to re-create their image to attract attention. She feels that individuals like herself, Natalie Gulbis and Kristie Kerr are helping in this area.

Vern won the Bunker to Bunker prize pack which includes and Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, Ahead Golf Cap and a round of golf to the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa for his "take" on the Saturday Morning Soapbox. Vern stated that if the PGA Tour did not stop the heckling of Davis Love III than Davis had no right to jump into the gallery and stop it himself. Since this was a match play event all of the tour officials were on one hole and they obviously did not think that the heckling was bad enough to stop. Vern also pointed out how he thinks Davis` actions sets him up for more heckling in the future.

Remember to tune into the Bunker to Bunker Golf Show every Saturday Morning on ESPN Radio 860 from 7:00-9:00. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, February 28, 2004

The Bunker to Bunker team was live in studio with Tiffany and Greg at the helm. This week`s show was very fast paced and was highlighted by Saturday Soapbox, presented by Golf Discount Equipment, dealing with a discussion about the PGA Tour conducting two professional events in the same weekend. Tiffany recapped last week`s golf in L.A, where Mike Weir was victorious and defended his title at the Nissan Open.

David Troyer, Director of Golf at Omni Tucson National, called in to give us the update on the Chrysler Classic of Tucson. John Patzwald, Director of Golf at the Sanctuary Golf Club, called in to give us a little background on the Sanctuary and a great offer they have going on at this time. If you purchase the SunCor Golf Card for $150.00, SunCor will give you the Southwest Section PGA Golf Pass for FREE. That pass costs $110.00. Call the Sanctuary for more information.

Saturday Soapbox, presented by Golf Discount Equipment, allowed our listeners the opportunity to call in to share their thoughts. The topic this week was, "The PGA Tour is conducting two professional events in the same weekend, is this good for the game?" There were several callers that eloquently expressed their opinions. Bill from Peoria won the prize package which included an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap, a foursome of golf to the Sanctuary Golf Club in Scottsdale and a $20.00 gift certificate to Golf Discount for his summarizing of the continued importance of the event in Tucson. Congratulations Bill. Thanks to all of you who participated in this topic and listen next time to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Bunker to Bunker, February 21, 2004

Greg and DJ were in studio this week. After a quick recap of the John Daly and Craig Stadler wins last week Greg and DJ started an overview of the Nissan Open. The main topic of conversation was Daly`s good play so far as well as Mike Weir`s. DJ also pointed out that Shigeki Maryama was playing well and is a member at the host course Riviera.

Jill Mann, Group Sales Coordinator for The Phoenician Golf Course, came on the program to discuss their new membership programs. These memberships give you access to their 27-hole golf course as well as all of the amenities at the world class resort.

Peter Kessler of Golf Magazine and formerly of the Golf Channel was next to join the program. Peter, a friend of the program, filled us in on how important it is that guys like John Daly and Jonathon Kaye win on the PGA Tour. Their personalities are needed and the average golfer can relate to them. Peter also talked about how Phil Mickelson seems to be focused this year and he thinks that he will win a major this year. Peter also asked to come on the program in two weeks to give us some "breaking news" in his career. Be sure to tune in for that.

Next was our Saturday Soapbox segment. Peter from Chandler won himself a round of golf for four at the Phoenician, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt and an Ahead Cap. Peter was passionate about why he always cheers for John Daly. He stated that John is just like all of his playing buddies every weekend and he feels like he knows him though he never met him. He also stated that it is in our nature to forgive and forget and that is why we always cheer for John.

Josh Yokitaki, Director of Golf from Riviera Country Club, joined the program to fill us in on his thoughts for the weekend. Josh stated that weather was going to be the big story throughout the weekend. He mentioned that this golf course already plays long and if they get the rain they expect it will be even tougher. Josh also pointed out the Freddy Couples is a player to look out for because he always plays well there.

Remember to tune in to the Bunker to Bunker golf show every Saturday morning from 7:00-9:00 on ESPN radio 860. You never know what you might miss.

Bunker to Bunker, February 14, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week, too.

To start off the show we talked with Jon Vesper, Director of Golf, and Cory Flota, Golf Course Superintendant, from Corte Bella Golf Club, the newest Troon Golf property in Arizona. Corte Bella is located in Sun City, Arizona and has a country-club feel to it. The Golf Club`s par-72, 18-hole championship course by designer Greg Nash offers four sets of tees from 5,145 yards to 7,000 yards. This golf course is like no other you will play in Arizona with a truly unique Greg Nash design that sets it apart from the crowd. They are having great specials, so go to their Website to find out more information.

Next we spoke with Mayor Ron Drake about the Southwest Prostate Cancer Golf Tournament. The golf tournament will be held this Thursday, February 19th at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Arizona. They will have celebrities such as Dusty Baker and Dennis Green join them and make this a great fund raiser. The statistics are staggering when it comes to the number of men who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the next year, so do your part to help by playing in this great tournament. Call Coldwater Golf Club at (623)932-9000 to sign up today. That was just the first half of the show.

After the ESPN break, we had the great pleasure of talking with Kirk Triplett about his Dave Thomas Foundation Golf Tournament which will be held at Kierland Golf Club on Sunday, March 7th and Grayhawk Golf Club on Monday, March 8th. Not only does Kirk want to raise awareness about adoption through this golf tournament, but also when other players are selling the space on their bags, he is putting his bag to good use for this cause, too. In every tournament he plays he has partnered with the Dave Thomas Foundation to spotlight a kid who would love to be adopted. He does this by putting a picture and information about the child on his golf bag. Kirk and Cathi Triplett are definitely a one-of-a-kind couple and they both have hearts of gold!

The Saturday Soapbox question this week was, "Should the PGA, LPGA and Champions Tours have more Celebrity Pro-Ams like that of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am?" DJ really likes to watch the celebrities play and relates to them on the same level as he plays. Also, he says it brings awareness of the game of golf to those that might not necessarily watch the tour players. Tiffany was against having more on the PGA Tour, but wanted some added to the LPGA and Champions Tour. She felt this brings more awareness of those tours to the public with the help of celebrities and might help build the momentum of those tours. The winner this week for the Saturday Soapbox was Joe Suttell. Joe was also against having more celebrity pro-ams. The real golfers who like to watch the professionals do not want to watch the celebrities play over-par golf. He wants to stay with the game of golf and the real athletes. Joe wins a foursome of golf to Corte Bella Golf Club, an Antigua whisper golf shirt and an Ahead golf cap, both with the Bunker to Bunker logos on them.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don`t forget next week to listen to ESPN radio 860, Greg and DJ are in studio from 7 – 9 A.M.

Bunker to Bunker, February 7, 2004

Greg and Tiffany were in studio this morning with lots of exciting golf to recap from last week and plenty going on this week to talk about, too.

To start off the show we talked with Steve Folb from Beringer Blass Winery and Greg Norman Wine. Greg Norman is big into his wine and really wanted to have his own label. He partnered with Beringer to buy different vineyards in Australia and create the Greg Norman label. They are well known for their blends which can be bought at your local grocery store. The winery will be holding a $10,000 hole-in-one challenge at Kierland Golf Club on February 23, 2004. Registration starts at 11:00 A.M., so call the golf shop today at 480-922-1573 to find out more information.

Next we spoke with Steve Morowitz the Head Golf Professional at Ocotillo Golf Club (pronounced Oak-a-t-o) in Chandler, Arizona. Steve talked about the beautiful golf resort and how 24 of the 27 holes have a water feature on them. It is not your typical desert golf course that you find in Arizona, Ocotillo offers much, much more. Also, Ocotillo is a great place to have the wedding of your dreams. They are running great specials this month which you can find on their Website.

That was just the first half of the show! After the ESPN break, we had the great pleasure of talking with Jonathan Kaye, the inaugural champion of the FBR Open. He is a local resident of Arizona, which a lot of people are not aware of. He told us how much sweeter this win was than his first win last year. Winning in your home town and having the crowd support you is what golf is all about. Jonathan has great insight to the game of golf and does not get worked up about all the political stuff that goes on. He says "Golf is just a game." What a great attitude he has and we in Arizona are so blessed to have such a great champion in him.

We also got an update from Chuck Dunbar from Pebble Beach to talk about the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am that is going on this week. AT&T decided last year to renew their contract for another ten years. Chuck filled us in on the changes that have been made to the course and his pick to win this tournament ~ Vijay Singh. We wait until Sunday to see if he was right.

Saturday Soapbox this week was filled with lots of opinions and different ones at that. This week we talked about regulating the golf ball. Our question was, "Should every tour player play with the same type golf ball?" Greg thinks that the tour should regulate the ball, just as they are trying to do with the drivers. Tiffany disagreed and thinks that the PGA Tour and USGA should "Let it Fly" when it comes to golf balls. The winner this week for the Saturday Soapbox was Mike Kamrath. Mike was also against the regulation of golf balls. He said that the technology of golf and every sport is evolving, we should allow golf to continue because, after all, they still have to make the 10-foot putt at the end of the day! Mike won an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, an Ahead golf cap (both with the Bunker to Bunker logo), a foursome of golf to Ocotillo and 2 VIP passes to the Greg Norman hole-in-one challenge at Kierland Golf Club.

It was a jam-packed show and we thank all of our listeners who tuned in. Don’t forget next week to listen on ESPN radio 860 AM while Tiffany and DJ are in studio from 7 to 9 A.M.

Bunker to Bunker, January 31, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were live at the FBR Open this week. The TPC of Scottsdale was buzzing with Phil Mickelson at the top of the leader board and coming off his win last week at the Hope. First to join the program was Mike Labauve, Director of Instruction at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, to discuss the course changes for this year`s tournament. Mike pointed out that even though they lengthened the golf course, short hitters were the majority of players at the top. The changes put longer irons in players` hands and the short hitters are used to that. Mike pointed out how Mickelson has made several changes in the off season including losing 15 lbs. Mike mentioned that Phil has also been working extremely hard inside of 150 yards which was his big weakness last year.

Greg Ellis called into the program from the PGA show in Orlando. Greg told our listeners all about the hot new products on the market including the Ignite Nike Driver and the ERC Fusion Driver from Callaway. Also getting a lot of buzz were the new Callaway Blue putters.

Bill Grove, the Director of Golf and GM at the TPC of Scottsdale, joined the program to discuss the record-setting crowds that The FBR Open is producing this year. Bill stated that this was primarily due to the great weather we are having and the addition of 4 new corporate tents in the corporate village. Bill pointed out how rain last week has made the greens a bit softer than normal but wind on Friday and Saturday will dry them out and make them much harder and faster for Sunday.

Greg Hoyt, FBR OpenTournament Chairman, and Pete Kuehner, the Big Chief of the Thunderbirds, joined the program to discuss the success of the event. They both stated that having two locals on the leader board has been a big help with crowds. Also, they filled us in on the Birdie for Charity program where the Thunderbirds are donating $100 for every Birdie that the players make and $500 for every Eagle.

Mike from Phoenix won the Saturday Soapbox presented by the Arizona Golf Doctors with his take that Phil Mickelson will not win a major this year because family means more to him than winning and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Mike wins an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt, an Ahead Golf Cap and two member badges to the FBR Open.

Remember to tune in next week from 7:00-9:00 on ESPN Radio 860. You don`t want to miss all the latest from the world of golf as Greg, DJ and Tiffany bring you up to date on the week`s happenings.

Bunker to Bunker, January 24, 2004

Bunker-to-Bunker team was live in studio. DJ and Greg held down the fort while Tiffany was off preparing for her FBR Open duties with one of the local TV stations.

This week`s show was quite spirited. It was highlighted by the Saturday Soapbox dealing with a discussion about the inequality for opportunity for minorities. Michelle Wie was a topic of discussion as well. Her close brush with history by almost making the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii on the PGA Tour showed many people that her game might be good enough for the Tour. DJ and Greg recapped last week`s golf in Hawaii where Ernie Els was victorious for the second year in a row.

FBR Open Tournament chairman Greg Hoyt called into the show to talk about the schedule of events that began on Sunday. He also talked about the sponsor exemption extended to Ted Purdy. Ted will join Ricky Barnes (U of A) and Jim Carter and Per-Ulrik Johannson (ASU) in the group who received sponsor exemptions into the FBR Open.

Bill Grove, the Director of Golf and GM at the TPC of Scottsdale, called in to give us an update on the golf course conditions and the changes to the facility that is both a player-favorite PGA Tour stop and a fan-friendly event as well. Changes to holes #2, 6, 9, 14, 15 and 18 will certainly have an impact on the outcome of the event. Distance was added and bunkers were either added or enlarged to create new obstacles for the field of 132 players who will begin play on Thursday.

Saturday Soapbox, presented by the Arizona Golf Doctors, allowed our listeners the opportunity to call in to share their thoughts. The topic was, “What can be done to increase the opportunities for minority golfers to get to show off their ability?” Brad Perry, Brian Cooper, Andy Walker and Pomp Braswell, joined DJ and Greg in studio for a very spirited conversation. Brian, Andy and Pomp are all golf professionals trying to make it out on the PGA Tour and are looking for an opportunity to put a sponsor deal together that will help springboard their careers. The opportunities are not as accessible to minorities as to Caucasians and their hope is that the contributions they are making to the game will be rewarded with an opportunity to compete. There were several callers and only a couple of listeners were able to be heard. Greg of Phoenix won the prize package which included an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf cap and two passes to the FBR Open for his compelling comments on this subject. Congratulations Greg. Thanks to all of you who participated in this topic and listen this week to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Greg, DJ, Brad and the other guys wrapped up the show with the fact that all they are looking for is a chance to compete and show that they can be as good as the guys that have been given the breaks.

Remember to tune in next week for the special live broadcast on Saturday, from 7:00-9:00 on ESPN Radio 860 from the FBR Open. DJ and Tiffany will be there while Greg will be on assignment at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.

Bunker to Bunker, January 17, 2004

The Bunker-to-Bunker team was live at Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club for the Bunker to Bunkerville Tournament of Champions. DJ and Tiffany were off for business at Westin Kierland Resort and Spa. Tom Enders, Golf Sales Manager with the Southwest Region Marriott properties, sat in as a guest host. Tom fulfilled the duties very well.

DJ did call in to talk about the Starwood Properties` function that he and Tiffany were involved with for the week. He had his hands more than full with this event!

The topics ranged from talking about Stuart Appleby`s victory at the Mercedes Tpurnament of Champions last week to the big headlines: Michelle Wie playing in the Sony Open in Hawaii. Michelle was also indirectly the topic of the Saturday Soapbox. She made a great showing in Hawaii almost making PGA Tour history had she made the cut. And, she did make history by being the youngest person to play in a PGA Tour event. There was some lengthy conversation about this weekend`s event. We also discussed the breaking news by the FBR Open Tournament chairman Greg Hoyt that Ricky Barnes (U of A), Jim Carter and Per-Ulrik Johansson (ASU) would receive the sponsor`s exemptions to the FBR Open.

Chris Dobbins, the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Sheraton Crescent Resort called in to talk about the Starwood Conference in town this week and the four-golf-course event that was being hosted by Kierland, Phoenician, Whirlwind, and the Wigwam to raise money for the Phoenix Children`s Hospital. The week`s events had already generated $25,000.00 for the charity prior to their golf tournament. Congratulations on the great contribution.

E. A. McDonough, with the Phoenix Coyotes called in to talk about the red-hot Coyotes and Brian Boucher`s great goalie record. If you have not been there for a game or tour, it is a must see. E.A. also provided tickets for today`s Bunker event.

Jim Lawrence, Head Golf Professional at Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club and Jeff Eccleston, Director of Tournament Sales for EMRGC sat in to talk about EMRGC and lend a hand in determining the Saturday Soapbox winner.

Saturday Soapbox, presented by the Arizona Golf Doctors, allowed our listeners the opportunity to call in to share their thoughts. The topic was, "What do you think about 14-year olds playing professional tour events or turning pro before even graduating from high school?" The phones lit up early and remained that way. For those who did not make it into this week`s Saturday Soapbox, please try again next week to discuss a new topic. James from Cave Creek was this week`s winner. He stated that kids are being introduced to things that they should not be at too young an age. James felt this all had to do with the socio-economics of our society and what we are allowing the kids to do today that kids 20 years ago were not exposed to. James` prize package for his compelling thoughts on this topic included an Antigua Whisper golf shirt, Ahead golf Cap, and a foursome of golf to Estrella Mountain Ranch Golf Club. Congratulations James. Thanks to all of you who participated in this topic and listen this week to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Greg and Tom wrapped up the show with a golf tip dealing with stretching prior to teeing it up.

One very good stretch to implement is to place your driver behind your neck and rest it on your shoulders with your arms folded over the top of the golf club. From this position and standing straight up, you will turn your upper body slowly to the right and hold this for a ten-second count. Then you will turn all the way back through to the left and hold there. Do this for about two minutes then bend over at the waist and get into your golf posture and repeat the same process. Finally, bend over further and repeat the same stretching maneuver until your muscles begin to loosen up enough to swing without pulling anything. Follow this stretch with ten left-handed practice swings then ten right-handed practice swings. After this, you are ready to begin hitting a few golf balls to warm up your game. Remember to always get to the golf course early to loosen up to reduce the potential for a serious injury.

Bunker to Bunker, January 10, 2004

DJ and Tiffany were in studio this week as Greg took the weekend off. Both DJ and Tiffany were excited for the golf season to start because you can only talk about so much in the silly season. The big story this week is Vijay Singh leading at the Mercedes Championship. Vijay finished his round on Friday with seven straight birdies and currently has a five-shot lead over Stuart Appleby. Vijay came right out after his round and stated that his goal this year is to knock Tiger from the number-one spot in the World Rankings. This might be the only way that he will ever get player of the year. It was also interesting that Vijay has switched to a conventional style of putting after using a belly putter for the past few years. Vijay said that the switch has been very comfortable and he will stick with it as long as he feels he is "rolling it well."

John Kettig of Puttomatic joined the program to fill our listeners in on his products. He has a training aid which attaches to the end of your putter and goes up to your neck. The training aid makes you putt with your shoulders and will not allow you to use hands or you will "pop yourself in the neck." Puttomatic also took this concept and built a neck putter. I will admit that it is strange to look at but very effective in making you put the proper stroke on the putt.

Greg Hoyt, Tournament Chairman of the FBR Open, joined the program to fill us in on the current sign ups for the event. The big story is that they already have 12 of the top 20 in the world signed up and still have several days left for players to sign up. Greg mentioned how Tiger always waits until the last minute to sign up and that he hopes the recent sign-up trend that he plays here every other year continues because that would mean he is IN this year. Greg will be joining the program weekly to keep us current on the FBR Open. Also, we want to remind our listeners that we will be LIVE from the FBR Open on Wednesday and Saturday.

The Soapbox topic this week was the voluntary coefficient of restitution (COR) testing which the PGA has implemented this week at the Mercedes Championship. Basically, Tiger Woods made a stink that a lot of the players were playing with illegal drivers because he was consistently getting out driven by his opponents. Tiger asked for the weekly testing and what Tiger wants Tiger gets. Tiger was the first player to get his driver tested with Jim Furyk being second. The policy states that any player can request another player have his driver tested. DJ and Tiffany argued that it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to be sure that the drivers are legal, not the players. Besides, what player is going to turn another player in for using a suspected hot driver? Jack from Mesa won a round of golf to Desert Springs Golf Club, two FBR tickets, an Antigua Whisper Golf Shirt and an Ahead cap for his take that this sounds a lot like the "corked bat issue that Sammy Sosa had in baseball." Good Stuff.

Bunker to Bunker, January 3, 2005

The Bunker-to-Bunker team was live in studio with Greg and Tiffany hosting the first show of 2004 while DJ was enjoying the holidays with his family. This week`s show dealt with predictions for 2004.

The topics ranged from talking about Tiger Woods winning two majors this year (Greg`s prediction) to Ben Curtis and Hilary Lunke not winning another tour event (DJ`s prediction from two weekends ago.) Tiffany and Greg discussed the female factor on the PGA Tour and who would play in events in 2004. There was discussion about how many millionaires there would be on the PGA Tour and how maybe some of that wealth should be spread to the Champions and LPGA Tours.

Other predictions ranged from Annika surpassing her 2003 year to Tiffany predicting that Rachael Teske will be a threat to dethrone Annika from the top spot on the LPGA Tour. Greg reiterated that the novelty has worn off and that it is okay for women to play in the men`s events if they qualify and earn the spot. Greg also mentioned that Jim Furyk would be Tiger`s biggest threat for the Player of the Year title for 2004.

Derek Crawford called in to talk about the two-man invitational coming up on January 12th at We-Ko-Pa. The event is sold out for 2004 but anybody wanting to go and be a spectator is welcome. You can also get on the mailing list for 2004 (for the 2005 tournament) by calling 480-836-9000.

All of the callers who were spoken to on the air received two tickets to the FBR Open. Check out www.bunkergolf.com where Tiffany will post the callers` 2004 predictions. The person or persons who predicted correctly for 2004 will receive a great golf package at the end of the season. Also, we will be accepting email predictions for 2004 until January 12, 2004 so submit them to our Bunker email. Thanks to all of you who participated in this topic and listen every week to be a part of the Saturday Soapbox.

Greg and Tiffany wrapped up this week`s show with the first golf tip for 2004. The tip dealt with having a little "GAS" to start your golf swing. There are three important aspects to the golf swing that must be improved or perfected by each golfer to elevate their game to a better level. These three areas are: (G)rip, (A)lignment, and (S)etup. There are three different grips to choose from: The ten-finger grip, the overlapping grip and the interlocking grip. Comfort is the best determining factor for this fundamental. Remember that the proper grip of the club is more in the fingers than in the palms of your hands. Once you have a sound grip you will want to work on your alignment. Choose your intended target line, set the golf club on that line; your back foot should be perpendicular to the target and the forward foot should be slightly to the left of the line to create a parallel left alignment of your feet. This promotes the lower body rotation through the golf shot with less effort. Finally, the setup is accomplished by positioning the golf ball between your feet in the proper area. If using a driver the ball position will be just inside your left big toe (for right handed players and the opposite for lefties) to slightly ahead of the center of your stance with a 7 iron. These fundamentals should be perfected on the practice tee and developed through the use of a sound pre-shot routine. Once this becomes comfortable, stick with this routine and your scores should begin to lower throughout the coming year. As always, for additional assistance with this tip, go to a local PGA professional for a check up to insure that you are headed in the right direction with your new-found "GAS" fundamentals.
