When setting up for your putt, instead of focusing on the hole and lining
your putter up to the hole, try picking out a spot on the green about 1 to 2
feet in front of your ball. To do this, stand behind the ball, find the
correct line from the ball to the hole, then find a blade of
grass, an old ball mark, anything that is on the line of your putt to focus
on. When you focus only 1 to 2 feet in front of your ball it helps, not
only with the stroke, but also with the ball staying on the desired line.
Of course you can look at the hole to get the desired speed of the putt, but
when you stand over the ball, focus only on the mark that you picked out. You
will find that when you putt towards that mark you will make a smooth putt
and the ball will stay on the intended line.
Just remember, drive for show
and putt for dough!
